The performance of an asphaltic paving material can be greatly improved when the paving material is prepared by first coating the particles of the aggregate material with a molten phenolic resin and then mixing the thus resin-coated aggregate material with asphalt and the like bituminous material. The phenolic resin is preferably modified with a phenoxy resin.

Bituminous paving material and a method for the preparation thereof

The process for preparing a resin-coated casting sand by coating sand grains with a binder comprising a liquid phenolic resin component and a polyisocyanate component, the improvement of which comprises coating sand grains with an organic solvent prior to coating of the sand grains with the binder, thereby prolonging the bench life of the resulting resin-coated casting sand and enhancing the strength of a casting mold prepared from this resin-coated casting sand. Furthermore, this process enables the utilization of sand of a low grade or reclaimed sand having a high alkaline component content, that has not been used in the conventional process, and the supply of an excellent resin-coated casting sand which is capable of providing a casting mold having a high strength and has a long bench life.

Process for preparation of resin-coated molding sand

The invention relates to improvements of RCS and casting molds therefrom. The improvement resides that the resinous coating contains halogen-containing compound(s) which accelerate(s) carburizing of the resin during under heat subjected to the molten metal pouring step. Further, the resin coating comprises certain amount of pulverized metal capable of reacting under heat with separated halogen or halogen compound during the casting step and for avoiding ferrous element(s) in the castings and/or the mold(s).
