A saddle riding type vehicle capable of making turns by leaning a vehicle body includes a pair of rear wheels provided at opposite sides of the vehicle body, a pair of support mechanisms arranged to support the pair of rear wheels to be movable, independently of each other, up and down about a pivot axis relative to the vehicle body, an engine disposed forward of the pivot axis to produce a drive force, a differential mechanism arranged to distribute the drive force of the engine to the pair of rear wheels and to absorb a rotating speed difference between the pair of rear wheels at a time of making a turn, the differential mechanism including drive shafts arranged between the engine and the pivot axis, a pair of shaft drive mechanisms provided for the pair of rear wheels, respectively, and arranged to transmit the drive force of the differential mechanism to the pair of rear wheels, and a pair of constant velocity universal joints provided for the pair of shaft drive mechanisms, respectively, each including a pair of universal joints connected by a coupling yoke, the coupling yoke being located on the pivot axis, and the pair of universal joints being arranged in a positional relationship of point symmetry.

A gear knocking sound preventing device for a transmission having a rotatable main shaft and a forward stage low speed shift shaft, a forward stage high speed shift shaft, and a forward stage maximum speed and reverse shift shaft. These latter three shift shafts are selectively axially movable by actuation of a shift and select lever mounted on a shift and select shaft. A gear knocking sound preventing device is provided and includes a cam mechanism having a first cam disposed on the shift and select shaft, and a second cam disposed on the forward stage low speed shift shaft so as to be engagable and disengagable with the first cam. The first cam is activated by rotation of the shift and select shaft and is brought into engagement with the second cam during reverse shifting so that the forward stage low speed shift shaft is moved slightly axially to activate a forward stage synchronous meshing mechanism to thereby stop the rotation of the main shaft of the transmission.

Gear knocking sound preventing device for transmission

A shift mechanism for a speed change gear mounted in a horizontal posture on a horizontal engine which is mounted on a rear side of a four wheel drive vehicle. The shift mechanism includes a shift cable and a select cable which are generally linearly wired from the front to the rear of the vehicle. The shift mechanism also includes a first engaging portion and a first link mechanism for converting rotational motion of a shift lever, as transmitted to the shift lever through said shift cable, to a reciprocating motion of a shift and select shaft. The shift mechanism further includes a second engaging portion and second link mechanism for converting rotational motion of a select lever, as transmitted to the select lever through said select cable, to a reciprocating motion of said shift and select shaft.
