Provided is a particulate combustion catalyst including a carrier formed of monoclinic zirconium oxide particles, and metallic Ag or Ag oxide, which serves as a catalyst component and is supported on the carrier, wherein the amount of the catalyst component is 0.5 to 10 mass %, as reduced to metallic Ag, on the basis of the mass of the carrier, and preferably, the catalyst has a BET specific surface area of 8 to 21 m/g. Fluorine-doped tin-oxide particles and manufacturing method therefor

A tin oxide particle having a structure characterized by peaks in Raman spectroscopy at at least 37&#xb1;9 cm, 57&#xb1;9 cm, 97&#xb1;9 cm, 142&#xb1;9 cm, 205&#xb1;9 cm, 255&#xb1;9 cm. The tin oxide particle preferably has an infrared transmittance of 80% or less at a wavelength of 1500 nm. The tin oxide particle preferably exhibits electroconductivity. The tin oxide particle is preferably substantially free from a dopant element that develops electroconductivity.

Tin oxide particles and method for producing same

A tin oxide particle having at least two diffraction peaks at 2&#x3b8; (deg) of 9&#xb1;1&#xb0; and 28&#xb1;1&#xb0; in XRD measurement by Cu/K&#x3b1; radiation. The tin oxide particle preferably shows diffraction peaks at 2&#x3b8; (deg) of 19&#xb1;1&#xb0;, 48&#xb1;1&#xb0;, and 59&#xb1;1&#xb0;. The tin oxide particle preferably has electroconductivity. The tin oxide particle is preferably produced by mixing an aqueous solution containing tin (II) and a hydroxyl-containing organic compound in a heated condition with an alkali.

Tin oxide particles and process for producing the same

A deoxidizer includes a porous body of fluorite-type cerium oxide represented by CeO(where x is a positive number smaller than 2) and having a reversible oxygen deficiency. The deoxidizer has a specific surface area of 0.6 to 1.8 m/g and a pore median diameter of 1.6 to 5.3 &#x3bc;m. The cerium oxide used for the deoxidizer is produced by: firing a cerium-containing salt in the atmosphere at 500&#xb0; C. to 1400&#xb0; C. for 1 to 20 hours, to produce fluorite-type cerium oxide composed of a porous body; and firing the cerium oxide at 700&#xb0; C. to 1100&#xb0; C. for 1 to 3 hours in a reducing atmosphere having a hydrogen concentration equal to or above the lower explosive limit, to remove oxygen from the cerium oxide and produce the fluorite-type cerium oxide represented by CeOand having a reversible oxygen deficiency.

Deoxidizer

A dehumidifying deoxidizer containing oxygen-deficient cerium oxide and a dehumidifier is provided. The oxygen-deficient cerium oxide is preferably doped with an element increasing the oxygen absorption of the cerium oxide. The oxygen absorption sites of the cerium oxide are preferably obstructed by a site obstructing factor. The cerium oxide preferably has a fluorite type superlattice structure. Also provided are a dehumidifying and deoxidizing packet having the dehumidifying deoxidizer sealed in a bag-shaped, gas permeable casing and a dehumidifying and deoxidizing resin composition containing the dehumidifying deoxidizer and a gas permeable resin.

Dehumidifying deoxidizer

An object of the present invention is to provide a niobium monoxide able to realize large capacitance in a miniature sized capacitor. The invention relates to a niobium monoxide having a porous structure comprising particles, characterized in that the niobium monoxide has a full-width at half maximum of an X-ray diffraction peak corresponding to a (111) plane or an X-ray diffraction peak corresponding to a (200) plane of 0.21&#xb0; to 1.0&#xb0;. The niobium monoxide has a large specific surface area and porosity, and is especially suitable for use in a capacitor.

A p-type thermoelectric material is prepared by mixing and melting at least two members selected from bismuth, tellurium, selenium, antimony, and sulfur to obtain an alloy ingot; grinding the alloy ingot to obtain powder of the allow mass; and hot pressing the powder. At least the hot pressing is carried out in the presence of any one of hexane and solvents represented by CHOH or CHCO (where n is 1, 2 or 3). A dopant may be used at the step of mixing.

Process for preparing p-type thermoelectric material

A co-catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas which can be used for a loner period of time as an actual catalyst by using the cerium oxide in the conventional co-catalyst for purifying the exhaust gas as a cerium-containing complex oxide for elevating the resistance to heat and suppressing the performance reduction due to thermal deterioration and by making a specific surface area and an oxygen storage capacity over specified values. A co-catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas of the present invention includes a composite oxide including (a) cerium; and (b) at least one element selected from the group consisting of zirconium, yttrium, strontium, barium and a rare-earth element supported on a particulate aluminum oxide support; a specific surface area of the co-catalyst after sintering being not less than 40 m2/g; an oxygen storage capacity at 400&deg; C. being not less than 10 &mgr;mols/g and an oxygen storage capacity at 700&deg; C. being not less than 100 &mgr;mols/g.

Co-catalyst for purifying exhaust gas

A process for producing a thermoelectric material comprising mixing at least two of bismuth, tellurium, selenium, and antimony and, if desired, a dopant, melting the mixture, grinding the resulting alloy ingot, forming the powder, and sintering the green body under normal pressure, or hot pressing the powder, wherein the grinding and the normal sintering or hot pressing are carried out in the presence of a solvent represented by C H OH or C H CO (wherein n is 1, 2 or 3).

A thin film electro-luminescence composition comprising an alkaline earth metal thiogallate represented by the following compositional formula: ##EQU1## wherein M.sup.1 is Sr or Ba; RE is a lanthanoid element; a and b are integers which are different from each other; and wherein x is 0.001 to 0.1 with the proviso that ##EQU2## is excluded or comprising an alkaline earth metal thioaluminate represented by the following compositional formula: ##EQU3## wherein M.sup.2 is Ca, Sr or Ba; RE is a lanthanoid element; c and d are integers which may be different from each other; and wherein y is 0.001 to 0.1, and a thin film electro-luminescence device comprising said thin film electro-luminescence composition as a luminescence layer.
