A process for producing benzamidoximes represented by general formula (II), which are useful as intermediates of pesticides and drugs, at a stable and high yield by reacting benzonitriles represented by general formula (I) with hydroxylamine in the presence of a chelating agent wherein X represents halogeno, C,alkyl, C,alkoxy, C,alkylthio, hydroxy, mercapto, amino, nitro or C,haloalkyl; and n is 0 or an integer of from 1 to 5.
