A process for producing a polyarylate comprising the step of reacting (a) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, (b) a bisphenol diacetate and (c) an aliphatic carboxylic acid anhydride of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, to produce a polyarylate containing acid anhydride bonds. The polyarylate exhibits a high impact strength as well as a high weld strength, when formulated in a resin composition together with a polyamide.

Process for producing a polyarylate

An aromatic polyester copolymer consisting of 10 to 90 mol % of a recurring unit of the formula: ##STR1## and 90 to 10 mol % of a recurring unit of the formula: ##STR2## and having a logarithmic viscosity number of at least 0.3 as measured in a mixture of phenol and tetrachloroethane (6:4 in weight ratio) at a concentration of 1 g/100 cc at 25.degree. C. and having a terminal carboxyl content of about 80 mol eq./ton or less. This aromatic polyester copolymer has high durability under dry and moist heat as well as high resistance to water crazing and hence can be fabricated into useful articles by various molding techniques.

Aromatic copolyester

A resin composition consisting essentially of (A) an aromatic polyester-polycarboxylic anhydride and (B) a polyamide. An article molded from the resin composition exhibits high heat resistance, mechanical properties and moldability. It is particularly resistant to cracking upon impact and is also resistant to breaking at a thin-walled portion.

Aromatic polyester

An aromatic copolyester composition comprising (A) an aromatic copolyester derived from terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and/or a bisphenol and (B) a metal salt of an organic carboxylic acid, which is suitable for preparation of molded articles having superior mechanical properties and fire retardancy as well as superior thermal stability and reduced crazing.

A resin composition comprising: (a) an aromatic co-polyester comprising terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and a halogen-free bisphenol; and (b) a halogen-containing aromatic co-polyester containing terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and, at least in part, a bisphenol bearing a halogen substituent(s) as a comonomer. Molded articles prepared from such a resin composition possess excellent mechanical properties, electrical properties and flame-retardant capabilities.
