Embodiments provide an integrated thermoacoustic freeze desalination system () and process including a thermoacoustic engine (), wherein the thermoacoustic engine () is configured to generate mechanical energy in the form of acoustic waves () using heat supplied from a heat source (); a thermoacoustic refrigerator () acoustically coupled to the thermoacoustic engine (), wherein the thermoacoustic refrigerator () is adapted to use the mechanical energy in the acoustic waves () produced by the thermoacoustic engine () to remove heat from a coolant flowing through said thermoacoustic refrigerator (); and a freeze desalination system () fluidly coupled to the thermoacoustic refrigerator () and the thermoacoustic engine (), wherein the freeze desalination system () is configured to desalinate brine () via a process in which the coolant from the thermoacoustic refrigerator () flows through the freeze-desalination system () and causes at least a portion of the water from the brine () to freeze and separate from the brine.

Apparatuses for gasifying glycerol using solar energy, system including the apparatuses, and methods of using the apparatuses are provided. The apparatuses may include a concentrated solar dish comprising an opening and a gasifying reactor comprising a chamber. An entrance of the chamber may be aligned to the opening. The apparatuses may also include a thermal insulator disposed on outer surfaces of the concentrated solar dish and the gasifying reactor and a pipe in the thermal insulator. The pipe may be configured to deliver glycerol into the chamber of the gasifying reactor in the form of atomized mist. The glycerol may be delivered to a portion of the chamber adjacent the opening.

Sono-chemical reactors and methods of using the same are provided. The sono-chemical reactors may include a plurality of sections that are sequentially connected along a longitudinal direction of the sono-chemical reactor. The plurality of sections may include a sono-reactor section that includes a reactant inlet through which reactants are supplied into the sono-reactor section and a static mixer section that is configured to receive a first reactant/product mixture from the sono-reactor section and is configured mix the first reactant/product mixture therein for reaction between unreacted reactants. An inner space of the sono-reactor section may taper along the longitudinal direction of the chemical reactor away from the reactant inlet. The plurality of sections may also include a product separation section that is configured to receive a second reactant/product mixture from the static mixer section and is configured to separate a product from the second reactant/product mixture.

Continuous sono-chemical reactors and methods of using the same

A multi-chamber continuous tubular reactor for the transesterification of oil (e.g., waste cooking oil and the like) and methanol into glycol and fatty acid methyl (ethel) ester. The reactor includes a plurality of tubes, a plurality of fluidly coupled chambers, an inlet fluidly coupled to a first chamber of the plurality of chambers for receiving reactants, and an outlet fluidly coupled to a second chamber of the plurality of chambers for receiving products generated during a reaction within the plurality of chambers. At least one of the plurality of tubes is at least partially disposed within a lumen of another one of the plurality of tubes. The plurality of fluidly coupled chambers are defined, at least in part, by the plurality of tubes. The reactor is configured to generate a generally helical flow pattern through at least one of the plurality of chambers.
