A tool and a cutting insert for chip removing machining includes a tool body with an insert seat, a cutting insert mounted in the insert seat, and a fastening member. The cutting insert includes a first locking member extending in an area located outside of a central axis of the cutting insert. A second locking member configured to engage with the first locking member is provided in the insert seat. The fastening member extends through a through-hole and bears on a lower contact region of the cutting insert to press the cutting insert against a top support member provided rotationally ahead of the insert seat so that the second and first locking members lock with each other and form a radial support for the cutting insert, and on the other hand it presses an axial support region in the side surface of the cutting insert against an axial contact surface provided in the insert seat.

Tool for chip removing machining and a cutting insert

A milling insert suitable for shoulder milling includes a side surface extending between an upper and lower side and a cutting edge having a primary and a secondary cutting edge portion. The side surface includes an axial support surface opposite of the secondary cutting edge portion. The lower side includes a locking groove extending longitudinally, and a lower contact region formed to bear on a fastening member. The upper side has an upper contact region arranged to bear on a top support member of a tool in which the milling insert is mountable. A milling tool is provided with a top support member for bearing on the upper contact region of the milling insert, a locking ridge for locking with the locking groove, and an axial contact surface for supporting the axial support surface. A fastening member presses the milling insert against the top support member and the locking ridge.

Milling insert and a milling tool

An indexable milling insert for milling tools, including a bottom surface, an opposite chip surface, and a plurality of side surfaces extending between the bottom surface and the opposite chip surface, two of the side surfaces being primary clearance surfaces and two of the side surfaces being secondary clearance surfaces. A plurality of cutting edges are formed between the opposite chip surface and the primary and secondary clearance surfaces. Two of the cutting edges that connect to the primary clearance surfaces are primarily parallel and constitute main cutting edges. At least one lock structure is provided and includes a locking surface arranged on one of the secondary clearance surfaces so that the locking surface and the primary clearance surface form an acute angle, &#x3b1;, in a section that is parallel to the bottom surface and intersects the locking surface. A coupling structure is arranged on the opposite chip surface and at least partly projects from a plane that is parallel to the bottom surface and passes through points of the main cutting edges situated closest to the bottom surface. The coupling structure comprises at least one flank surface, which is arranged in such a way that the flank surface, in a section that is parallel to the primary clearance surface and intersects the flank surface, forms an acute angle, &#x3b2;, with the bottom surface so that the flank surface slopes in the direction from the secondary clearance surface on which the locking surface is arranged.

Indexable milling insert for milling tools

A cutting tool, and a loose top therefore, includes two parts detachably connected to each other via a threaded joint in which co-operating male and female threads are included in the form of helicoidal ridges. The profile shape of each helicoidal ridge is defined by a top and two flanks, which delimit a helicoidal groove having a bottom. The first flank is inclined in relation to a center axis of the tool at a first angle that is smaller than a second angle of the second flank in relation to the center axis. Accordingly, the thread ridge is reinforced in comparison with thread ridges having a symmetrical profile shape, whereby larger tensile forces than compressive forces can be applied to the threaded joint while avoiding damage to the thread ridges.

A tool for chip removing machining, including a long narrow basic body having an envelope surface which is concentric with a center axis, and two opposite ends, and a replaceable loose top which is connected to the basic body via a first coupling that includes a first seating formed in one end of the basic body and a first male element formed in one end of the loose top. The basic body includes a primary part body made of a first material having a first modulus of elasticity, and a secondary part body which includes the first seating and is made of a second material having a second modulus of elasticity which is lower than the first modulus of elasticity. The two part bodies of the basic body are interconnected via a second coupling which includes a second seating in the secondary part body as well as a second male element that is formed on the primary part body and has one or more precision machined flank surfaces that are arranged to apply, together with one or more co-operating and precision machined flank surfaces of the second seating, joining axial forces to the part bodies by turning the part bodies in relation to each other.

A cutting tool including a basic body having a geometrical center axis, a loose top having a rear male element, and a drawbar having a front part in which a coupling means is included, which by engagement in a coupling means of the male element of the loose top can transfer axial forces. The coupling means form an interface between the loose top and the drawbar. Each coupling means includes two axially separated ridges, a front ridge in the male element is between a front groove and a rear groove, the front groove being shallower than the rear groove such that the bottom thereof is situated at a greater radial distance from the center axis than the bottom of the rear groove.

A rotatable tool includes a shank rotatable about a longitudinal axis, a drawbar mounted to an axial front end of the shank, and a cutting head mounted to an axial front end of the drawbar. The shank and the drawbar include mutually engageable screw threads which impart an axial displacement of the drawbar relative to the shank. The cutting head and the drawbar include mutually engageable serrations for transferring axial force therebetween. The serrations are axially spaced from one another and extend transversely relative to the axis.
