Bone implants, including methods of use and assembly. The bone implants, which are optionally composite implants, generally include a distal anchoring region and a growth region that is proximal to the distal anchoring region. The distal anchoring region can have one or more distal surface features that adapt the distal anchoring region for anchoring into iliac bone. The growth region can have one or more growth features that adapt the growth region to facilitate at least one of bony on-growth, in-growth, or through-growth. The implants may be positioned along a posterior sacral alar-iliac ('SAI') trajectory. The implants may be coupled to one or more bone stabilizing constructs, such as rod elements thereof.

Implants for spinal fixation and or fusion

Methods and systems for evaluating the biomechanical properties of a subject's spine for the purpose of optimizing a potential surgical intervention by selecting or designing surgical hardware fora spinal correction procedure. The system uses a simulated dynamic analysis configured to analyze, predict and improve the outcome of the surgical procedure by taking into account physiological, biomechanical, and anatomical factors. Machine learning algorithms use the computed distribution of forces and moments on the subject's spine, and compare the subject's results with those of patients from a reference population. By analyzing the biomechanical parameters of individuals in the reference population and distinguishing those whose procedure succeeded versus those whose procedure failed, and comparing their biomechanical parameters to these of the individual under evaluation for a spinal surgery, the method is able to predict the chances for a successful surgery, recommend an optimal procedure and/or the optimal implant(s) configuration.

Planning spinal surgery using patient-specific biomechanical parameters

A method of planning the correction of spinal deformations of a subject, by performing segmentation on a three dimensional image of the subject's spine in its erect neutral position, such that the positions and orientations of the vertebrae in a region of interest are characterized. Parameters relating to the alignment and position of the vertebrae are derived from the segmentation, followed by determining whether the parameters fall within an acceptable range desired for the spine of the subject. If not within the acceptable range, an alignment optimization is performed on the vertebrae to bring the parameters within the acceptable range, to reduce the spinal deformations of the subject's spine. The alignment optimization is performed by taking into consideration limitations arising from the dynamic range of motion of the vertebrae as determined by analyzing images of the subject's spine, while the subject is in positions of maximum bending.

Global spinal alignment method

The present invention generally relates to bone implants. More specifically, the present invention relates to bone implants used for the fixation and or fusion of the sacroiliac joint and/or the spine. For example, a system for fusing and or stabilizing a plurality of bones is provided. The system includes an implant structure having a shank portion, a body portion and a head portion. The body portion is coupled to the shank portion and is configured to be placed through a first bone segment, across a bone joint or fracture and into a second bone segment. The body portion is configured to allow for bony on-growth, ingrowth and through-growth. The head portion is coupled to the proximal end of the shank portion and is configured to couple the shank portion to a stabilizing rod. Methods of use are also disclosed.

According to some embodiments of the invention, an intervertebral disc replacement includes a first layer having a lower surface for contacting a first vertebral bone, a second layer coupled to the first layer, the second layer comprising a plurality of compressible column springs, and a third layer coupled to the second layer, the third layer having an upper surface for contacting a second vertebral bone. Each of the plurality of compressible column springs comprises a plurality of stacked coils, and each of the plurality of stacked coils has a spring constant (K). At least one of the plurality of compressible column springs includes a first coil having a first spring constant and a second coil comprising a second spring constant, wherein the first spring constant is different from the second spring constant.

Intervertebral disc replacement

A robotic system for performing minimally invasive spinal stabilization, using two screws inserted in oblique trajectories from an inferior vertebra pedicle into the adjacent superior vertebra body. The procedure is less traumatic than such procedures performed using open back surgery, by virtue of the robot used to guide the surgeon along a safe trajectory, avoiding damage to nerves surrounding the vertebrae. The robot arm is advantageous since no access is provided in a minimally invasive procedure for direct viewing of the operation site, and the accuracy required for oblique entry can readily be achieved only using robotic control. This robotic system also obviates the need for a large number of fluoroscope images to check drill insertion position relative to the surrounding nerves. Disc cleaning tools with flexible wire heads are also described. The drilling trajectory is determined by comparing fluoroscope images to preoperative images showing the planned path.

Robot guided oblique spinal stabilization

A method for augmenting or replacing a spinal facet () includes the steps of providing a first plate () and a second plate (). An elastomeric member () is secured between and to the first plate () and the second plate (). The first plate () is secured to a first vertebra (). The second plate () is secured to a second vertebra () adjacent the first vertebra () for mimicking natural articulation between the first and second vertebrae ().

Facet augmentation

An apparatus for connecting two elongate body tissues is described. A flexible outer surface has a first outer end longitudinally spaced from a second outer end. A flexible inner surface has a first inner end longitudinally spaced from a second inner end. A first end aperture is defined by a flexible connection between the first outer end and the first inner end. The first end aperture is configured to accept a first elongate body tissue. A second end aperture is defined by a flexible connection between the second outer end and the second inner end. The second end aperture is configured to accept a second elongate body tissue. The outer and inner surfaces are configured for relative eversion operative to longitudinally shift an instantaneous midpoint of the apparatus with respect to a reference location on the inner surface. A method of using the apparatus is also provided.

Apparatus and method for connecting two elongate body tissues

An apparatus for replacing a damaged spinal disc in a spinal column includes a first retaining device having an outer surface engageable with a first vertebra of the spinal column and an inner surface. A second retaining device has an outer surface engageable with a second vertebra of the spinal column and an inner surface. A resilient core has a first surface and a second surface. The first surface engages the inner surface of the first retaining device. The second surface engages the inner surface of the second retaining device. The resilient core has a tapered radially outer surface extending from adjacent the first surface to adjacent the second surface. The first retaining device may have a flange extending toward the second retaining device. A concave surface may extend between the first surface and the radially outer surface. The concave surface of the core may engage the flange when the apparatus is free of a load.

Apparatus for replacing a damaged spinal disc

A guide tool having a through bore and at least one distal locating feature is provided. The distal locating feature of the guide tool is placed into a predetermined relationship with the plate. A fastener is engaged with a distal end of a driver shaft of a fastener driver. The fastener driver has a driver orientation means associated with the driver shaft. The fastener is inserted into the through bore of the guide tool with the fastener driver. The driver orientation means is mated with a guide orientation means located in the through bore of the guide tool. At least a portion of the fastener is inserted through the fastener hole. The fastener is secured into the bone through actuation of the fastener driver. The fastener driver is withdrawn from the guide tool, which is withdrawn from the plate.
