The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for analyzing citationally related content and identifying, based on the analysis, a risk of impliedly overruled content. Embodiments provide for receiving case law data from a document source, for extracting a case triple that includes a first case overruling or abrogating a second case, and a third case citationally related to the second case. Features may be generated from case triple, such as natural processing language features comparing the language in the various cases of the triple, and feeding the generated features to a main classifier. In embodiments, the main classifier classifies the case triple into a class indicating the risk probability that the second case is impliedly overruled by the first case.

Systems and methods for identifying a risk of impliedly overruled content based on citationally related content

Systems and techniques are disclosed to rank documents by analyzing a query log generated by a search engine. The query log includes data relating to user behavior, queries and documents. The systems and techniques distill query log information into surrogate documents and extract features from these surrogate documents to rank the documents.

Feature engineering and user behavior analysis

The present invention relates to a system, method and medium for associating portions of advocational documents with portions of tribunal decisions in view of common or similar characteristics that are identified between the associated entities. In addition, the associated advocational document portions are imparted with certain characteristics resulting from such an association, such as inheriting the topic of the associated tribunal decision portion or inheriting general characteristics of the decision such as judge or jurisdiction. This allows for the subsequent retrieval of advocational documents in view of various criteria associated with a decision or portion thereof.

A method for providing a search result includes receiving a user query and determining, in response to receiving the user query, a set of segment candidates based on the user query and an indexing structure. The indexing structure is associated with at least one segment constraint. The method further includes ranking the set of segment candidates and providing a result associated with the set of segment candidates. Another method includes ranking each segment within the set of segment candidates based on a set of prioritized features. Another method has the at least one segment constraint including at least one of a critical keyword and an exclusionary keyword. Another method further includes excluding a segment based on the at least one segment constraint comprising the exclusionary keyword.

System, method and interface for providing a search result using segment constraints

The present inventors have a devised one or more novel methods, systems, and interfaces for facilitating multi-lingual searches. One exemplary method entails creating multiple language-specific indices for a collection of documents, with each index including stemmed and non-stemmed versions of terms from the documents. Users submit queries that are associated with a set of one or more target languages. Query processing entails translating original and stemmed versions of each term in a query into each of the target languages, using one or more techniques that each yield a set of potentially equivalent query terms. Each set of potentially equivalent query terms is then processed against the corresponding language-specific index, using a conventional monolingual search technique, such as a Boolean or natural language query, to identify documents from the collection. The resultant documents are presented to the user in language groupings or by computed relevance.

Systems, methods, software, and interfaces for multilingual information retrieval

Every year, professional classifiers at West Group manually classify over 350,000 headnotes, or abstracts of judicial opinions, across approximately 82,000 separate classes of the Key Number System. Although most headnotes are classified from the memory of the classifiers, a significant number are difficult and thus costly to classify manually. Accordingly, the inventors devised systems, methods, and software that facilitate manual classification of headnotes and documents generally and hard-to-classify headnotes particularly. One exemplary system provides a graphical user interface that concurrently displays an unclassified headnote, a ranked list of one or more candidate classes, a candidate class in combination with adjacent classes of the classification system, and at least one classified headnote that is associated with one of the candidate classes.
