A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions executable by a processor described. In some examples, the instructions cause the processor to receive object data representing an object to be manufactured by an additive manufacturing process. A derivation process on the object data to derive a data set representing the object, the data set having a predetermined number of data fields. The data set is provided to data processing system comprising data based on previously determined manufacturing orientations and/or position. An output is received from the data processing system representing a manufacturing orientation and/or manufacturing position of the object.

Object orientation and/or position for additive manufacturing

A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions executable a processor is described. In some examples, the instructions cause the processor to receive object data representing an object to be manufactured by an additive manufacturing process. The object data comprises data representing a plurality of planar surfaces of the object. The object data is processed to determine, for each of the plurality of planar surfaces, an angle between the respective planar surface and a plane of a reference surface of an additive manufacturing apparatus. A manufacturing orientation of the object is selected on the basis of the angles determined for the plurality of planar surfaces and a further property of the object different to the determined angles.

Three-dimensional object production

A printer comprises at least one longitudinal cutter module to cut a print medium in a longitudinal direction with respect to a print media advance direction. The printer comprises a controller to position the longitudinal cutter module along a direction perpendicular to the print media advance direction. The controller is to receive a full-bleed print job and in response to receive print job to position the at least one cutter module along the direction perpendicular to the print media advance direction. The longitudinal cutter module is positioned by the controller to longitudinally cut the print medium.

A cutter is positioned at a cutting position according to a virtual coordinate system. Media is cut at the cutting position using the cutter to create a cut. The actual location of the cut in the media is detected and the virtual coordinate system is calibrated based on an offset between the cutting position and the actual cut location.

In An example cutting module comprises a housing to engage the cutting module with a drive shaft, a cutter engaged with the housing, and a drive system engaged with the housing. The cutting module movable along the drive shaft laterally to a media path, the cutter cuts media along the media path, and the drive system may lock when the drive shaft rotates in a second drive direction such that the cutting module moves with the drive shaft.

Build material analysis

A method of fabricating a three dimensional object is provided. A build layer comprising an area of solidified build material and an area of non-solidified build material is formed. The build layer is formed by depositing a layer of non-solidified build material and treating the build material to form the area of solidified build material. The method also involves determining an edge profile for the build layer. Determining the edge profile involves measuring a variation in height of the build layer across a transition between the area of solidified build material and the area of non-solidified build material.

Fabricating three dimensional objects

A method of aligning an agent distributor in an apparatus for generating a three-dimensional object comprises selectively depositing an agent on a layer of build material to form a predetermined alignment pattern (), and detecting the alignment pattern () from a height profile in a surface of the build material, and performing an alignment operation using the detected alignment pattern (). An alignment pattern () may comprise, for example, a series of triangles which are scanned to determine misalignment.
