The wind tunnel for testing a transport vehicle comprises rotary drums mounted on a base with their bearing surfaces located in the working chamber of the wind tunnel, essentially level with its floor, and a wind tunnel balance located in the zone of the rotary drums and comprising a frame which is linked mechanically with dynamometers secured to the base and a supporting platform. The frame is located at the outer sides of the rotary drums, somewhat below their bearing surfaces so that said rotary drums are inside said frame, and is connected with at least three horizontal links whose ends are articulated with the base via vertical links of which one is directed up and the other down. The supporting platform is located in the working chamber of the wind tunnel and mounted on the frame so that it can turn around a vertical axis during the test of the transport vehicle on the wind tunnel balance and be removed during the test of the transport vehicle on the rotary drums. This design of the wind tunnel is characterized by the comparatively small length of the working chamber.

A piezooptical measuring transducer comprises two light sources connected to a square-pulse generator so that the luminous fluxes of each light source pass alternately through a polarizer common for both fluxes, phase-shifting plates individual for each flux, an elastic element common for both fluxes, sensitive to variations of mechanical stresses therein caused by changes in the measurand, an analyzer common for both fluxes, all placed in that order downstream of the light sources across the fluxes, the latter being alternately incident upon a photocell. The phase-shifting plates are oriented so that their axes of maximum velocity of light propagation are perpendicular to each other.

Piezooptical measuring transducer

A sensitive element of a piezooptic measuring converter having an insert of a piezooptic material arranged between a foot and a base and rigidly attached thereto by means of their end portions constructed as a plurality of pins, which makes it possible to reduce thermal stresses in the insert more than 20-fold and thus reduce the temperature error of the piezooptic converter produced by these stresses.

Sensitive element of piezooptic measuring converter

A piezo-optic measuring transducer is disclosed herein and an accelerometer, a pressure gauge, a dynamometer, and a thermometer based thereon. The piezo-optic measuring transducer comprises two polarization-optical channels. Each of these channels includes the following components arranged in series downstream the luminous flux produced by a light source: a polarizer, an elastic element which is common to both channels and sensitive to stress variations therein caused by a variation in the measurand, an analyzer, and a photocell. Both channels are provided with a means for varying the intensity of the luminous flux incident upon one of the photocells which intensity variation is opposite in polarity to that in the luminous flux incident upon the other photocell. Both photocells are arranged in a differential relationship with the difference in the electrical signals produced thereby being representative of the measurand. An accelerometer, a pressure gauge, a dynamometer, and a thermometer can be provided on the basis of said transducer.
