Systems and methods are described for controlling an aircraft. The systems and methods utilize a touch screen instrument panel to display information to pilots or other users, and to receive input from the user for controlling the aircraft and its components. The systems and methods include synoptic user interface panels that provide graphical or symbolic representations of the aircraft, its components, and subsystems, and display information regarding their configuration, condition, and status. The users may interact with the synoptic user interface panels through the touch screen instrument panel to control the various components of the aircraft.

Systems, methods and computer-storage media are provided for displaying a real-time image in a cockpit of an aircraft. Use of a synthetic vision application is provided with a gradient-type feature such that a level of synthetic enhancements applied to an image may be adjusted to a synthetic vision application value that is less than 100 percent. The synthetic vision enhancement may be overlaid with the original image, according to the synthetic vision application value, to generate a modified image. Additional information may overlay the original image with the synthetic vision application such as a three-dimensional weather representation. The synthetic vision application may be used in conjunction with a high-definition camera to generate the original image. The modified image may be updated in real-time such that an updated view is continuously modified with an updated synthetic vision enhancement to provide accurate real-time views.

Adjustable synthetic vision

Systems, methods and computer-storage media are provided for enhancing awareness in an aircraft using a touch-screen instrument panel. In one aspect, a warning is displayed peripherally in the panel in a way that attracts attention without interfering with the use of the panel for other purposes. In another aspect, a crew member is directed by highlighting through menus to a screen that enables the problem causing the warning to be corrected. In another aspect, parameters (e.g., temperatures, pressures) are displayed along with oriented graphical representations of system components. In yet another aspect, aircraft parameters are displayed in a historical context so that the user has a time-line context for a value at issue.
