Devices, systems and methods for treating a biological fluid are provided comprising placing the fluid in contact with a complement filter capable of depleting at least one complement fragment from the fluid while at least one component of the biological fluid is being stored.

Biological fluid treatment system and method

A method for processing a biological fluid comprises the steps of collecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in a container containing a complement filter, centrifuging the PRP in the container to provide a supernatant layer comprising a volume of platelet-poor plasma (PPP) and a sediment layer including concentrated platelets, passing most of the volume of the PPP from the container, suspending the platelets in the remaining volume of PPP to provide a platelet suspension and storing the platelet suspension in the container for a storage period of at least about 24 hours while contacting the complement filter with at least a portion of the platelet suspension and removing complement from the platelet suspension.

Method for processing a biological fluid

A process for the preparation of a microporous polymeric membrane is provided which includes polymerizing a polymerizable fluorine-containing monomer in the presence of a microporous polymeric membrane substrate such that the fluorine-containing monomer forms a polymeric superstrate that is permanently chemically bonded to all surfaces of the membrane. A device is also provided for processing fluids which incorporates a microporous polymeric membrane having a CWST of less than about 28 dynes/cm and includes a microporous polymeric membrane substrate formed from a material such as a fluoropolymer and, permanently chemically bonded to all portions of the surface thereof is a superstrate, which may be a polymer or copolymer derived from a monomer(s), having an ethylenically unsaturated group and a perfluoroalkyl group. A gas filtration/drying process, a method of venting a gas from a vessel and a method of separating a gas from a liquid in a gas/liquid mixture using a microporous polymeric membrane having a CWST less than about 28 dynes/cm which includes a microporous polymeric membrane substrate and a superstrate fluoropolymer permanently chemically bonded to all portions of the membrane substrate are also provided.

Method for removing heparin from blood or plasma

A filter medium is provided comprising a fibrous matrix to whose surfaces is grafted a superstrate comprising a polymer with quaternary ammonium groups and made from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing a quaternary ammonium or amino group, the filter medium having a positive zeta potential at pH 7 and preferably an enhanced Latex Adsorption Capacity together with low extractables and quick rinse-up.

Polymeric microfiber filter medium

A porous polymeric medium having a low affinity for amide group-containing and adjuvant-containing materials is provided comprising a porous polyvinylidene difuoride substrate and a surface-modifying polymeric material having a low affinity for amide group-containing materials formed in situ at and covalently bonded to the surface of the porous polyvinylidene difluoride substrate, the surface-modifying polymeric material being formed from a monofunctional monomer having at least one hydroxyl group. Another embodiment that provides a porous polymeric medium having a low affinity for amide group-containing materials employs a supplemental monomer in combination with the monofunctional monomer having at least one hydroxyl group to form the surface-modifying polymeric material. The supplmental monomer or comonomer used is one which, when formed as a homopolymer, has a high affinity for amide group-containing materials.

Filtration media with low protein adsorbability

A hydrophobic polymeric microporous membrane having a CWST of less than about 28 dynes/cm is obtained by forming a (co)polymer of a fluorine-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer that is permanently chemically bonded to a microporous membrane substrate.

A polyamide dyed with a reactive dye capable of absorbing incident light of the excitation waveband of a fluorophore or light of the emission waveband of the polyamide is provided for use in assays in which the presence or quantity of an analyte is being detected by fluorescence as a result of excitation of a fluorescent material at an excitation waveband of light and in which the excitation waveband impinges upon the polyamide.
