A prelithiated anode may include a current collector may include a metal oxide layer. Prelithiated anodes may in addition include a lithiated storage layer overlaying the metal oxide layer. The lithiated storage layer may be formed by incorporating lithium into a continuous porous lithium storage layer may include at least 80 atomic % silicon. The lithiated storage layer may include less than 1% by weight of carbon-based binders. The lithiated storage layer may further include lithium in a range of 1% to 90% of a theoretical lithium storage capacity of the continuous porous lithium storage layer. Batteries may include the prelithiated anode.

Anodes for lithium-based energy storage devices, and methods for making same

An anode for an energy storage device may include a current collector. The current collector may include a metal oxide layer. The metal oxide layer may include a doped oxide or zinc oxide. In addition, the anode may include a continuous porous lithium storage layer overlaying the metal oxide layer. The continuous porous lithium storage layer may include a total content of silicon, germanium, or a combination thereof, of at least 40 atomic %.

A method of making a prelithiated anode for use in a lithium-ion battery includes providing a current collector having an electrically conductive layer and a metal oxide layer overlaying the electrically conductive layer. The metal oxide layer has an average thickness of at least 0.01 &#x3bc;m. A continuous porous lithium storage layer is deposited onto the metal oxide layer by a CVD process. Lithium is incorporated into the continuous porous lithium storage layer to form a lithiated storage layer prior to a first electrochemical cycle when the anode is assembled into the battery. The anode may be incorporated into a lithium ion battery along with a cathode. The cathode may include sulfur or selenium and the anode may be prelithiated.

A method of making an anode for use in an energy storage device includes providing a current collector having an electrically conductive layer and a metal oxide layer overlaying over the electrically conductive layer. The metal oxide layer has an average thickness of at least 0.01 &#x3bc;m. A continuous porous lithium storage layer is deposited onto the metal oxide layer by a CVD process. The anode is thermally treated after deposition of the continuous porous lithium storage layer is complete and prior to battery assembly. The thermal treatment includes heating the anode to a temperature in a range of 100&#xb0; C. to 600&#xb0; C. for a time period in a range of 0.1 min to 120 min. The anode may be incorporated into a lithium ion battery along with a cathode. The cathode may include sulfur or selenium and the anode may be prelithiated.

An energy management system includes a local power grid configured to route electricity, the local power grid configured to receive electricity from a municipal power grid of a utility service provider; an electric appliance electrically coupled to the local power grid, the electric appliance configured to receive electricity from the local power grid for operating according to an energy usage state; an electric vehicle electrically coupleable to the local power grid, the electric vehicle configured to exchange electricity with the local power grid; and a system server communicatively coupled to the electric appliance and the electric vehicle. The system server configured to: receive utility related data, appliance related data, and vehicle related data, determine, based on the received data, a vehicle-to-grid energy cost and a utility energy cost, and control the electric vehicle to discharge electric energy to the local power grid for operating the electric appliance, based on a comparison of the vehicle-to-grid energy cost with the utility energy cost for operating the electric appliance according to the energy usage state.

Systems and methods for integrating on-premises electric appliances with vehicle-to-grid electric vehicles

Vehicles and methods for cooling a cabin using a cold roof of the vehicle are provided. The vehicle includes a roof, a cabin, and an insulation layer disposed between the roof and the cabin. The vehicle also includes a passage that fluidly couples the roof with the cabin. The passage is switchable between an open mode and a closed mode. The passage is switched between the open mode and the closed mode depending on a relationship between a roof temperature, a cabin temperature, and/or a threshold temperature. The passage may be formed through the insulation layer or extend outside of the insulation layer fluidly coupling the roof with the cabin.

Vehicles and methods for cooling a cabin using a cold roof

A system for managing second-lives of a plurality of electric vehicle (EV) batteries includes a plurality of electric vehicles and a stationary second-life unit. Each electric vehicle includes at least one of the plurality of EV batteries during a first-life of each respective EV battery, in which each respective EV battery is utilized to power a respective one of the plurality of electric vehicles. Each of the plurality of electric vehicles is configured for bi-directional electric power exchange with a power grid via a vehicle-to-grid interface. The stationary second-life unit includes each of the plurality of EV batteries during a second-life of each respective EV battery. The stationary second-life unit is configured for bi-directional power exchange with the power grid. A state-of-health of each of the plurality of EV batteries is individually controlled, during the first-life of each respective EV battery, such that the plurality of EV batteries each have substantially similar states-of-health at a start of the second-life of each respective EV battery.
