A process for the simultaneous trimerization of ethylene and the copolymerization of the trimer with ethylene comprising continuously contacting ethylene, the 1-hexene which is formed, and, optionally, hydrogen in a reaction zone, under trimerization and polymerization conditions, with the supported reaction product of one or more bis-triarylsilyl chromates and one or more trihydrocarbylaluminum compounds wherein the atomic ratio of aluminum to chromium is at least about 3 to 1.

Process for the simultaneous trimerization and copolymerization of

A process for the trimerization of an olefin selected from the group consisting of ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, and mixtures thereof comprising passing the olefin and carbon dioxide in contact with a catalyst comprising the reaction product of (i) a chromium compound, which will provide active catalytic species under trimerization conditions, and (ii) a hydrocarbyl aluminum hydrolyzed with about 0.7 to about 1.1 moles of water per mole of aluminum compound wherein the aluminum to chromium mole ratio is in the range of up to about 200 to one and the mole ratio of olefin to carbon dioxide is in the range of about 4 to about 3000 moles of olefin per mole of carbon dioxide.

Process for trimerization

Ethylene polymers are obtained in enhanced yield in a process for homopolymerizing ethylene or copolymerizing ethylene with an alpha-olefin having 3 to 8 carbon atoms employing a catalyst system comprising (a) a solid titanium (III)-containing precursor, and (b) an organoaluminum activator, by heating the titanium (III)-containing precursor, prior to activating with the organoaluminum activator, at a temperature of 140.degree.-200.degree. C. for a sufficient time to reduce the electron donor level of the precursor from at least about 20 percent to about 80 percent over the electron donor level achieved by drying to constant weight.

Processes for preparing polyethylene catalysts by heating catalyst

A catalyst for the preparation of ethylene polymers having higher melt indexes comprises a silyl chromate deposited on a silica support containing both aluminum and titanium.

Titanium-modified silyl chromate catalysts for ethylene polymerization

Supported bis-cyclopentadienyl chromium [II] catalysts are modified with compounds having in their structure the moiety ##STR1## in order to improve the toughness and impact strength of the resulting ethylene polymers made therewith.

Ethylene polymerization with ether modified catalyst

Ethylene polymerization catalysts are prepared by depositing a chromocene compound on a support with a titanium compound and activating the final blend at 300.degree. C. to about 1000.degree. C. A fluoriding agent can be optionally added where a narrower molecular weight distribution of the polyethylene to be obtained is desired. Catalysts with good reproducibility, when prepared by this method, show particular utility in production of polyethylene by a fluid bed process.

Preparation of modified and activated chromocene catalysts for ethylene

A supported catalyst is used in the low pressure catalytic copolymerization of ethylene with C.sub.3 to C.sub.6 .alpha.-olefins in a fluid bed reactor to produce polymers having a density of less than 0.941 and a melt index of &gt;0.0 to at least about 2.0. The supported catalyst contains about 0.05 to 3.0 weight % of chromium, about 1.5 to 9.0 weight % of titanium and &gt;0.0 to about 2.5 weight % of fluorine.
