A bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) control circuit includes a non-linear current sensor. The non-linear current sensor includes a non-linear shunt, a comparator, and a reference voltage circuit. The non-linear shunt includes a capacitor connection terminal and a ground terminal. The comparator includes a first input, a reference voltage input, and a zero-crossing detector output. The first is input coupled to the capacitor connection terminal. The reference voltage circuit is coupled to the reference voltage input.

Power factor correction

A voltage converter, including an input adapted to couple to a voltage source and a transformer including a primary coil and a secondary coil. Primary side circuitry, including a first switching circuit, is coupled to the primary coil. A second switching circuit is coupled between a first terminal and a second terminal of the secondary coil, and configured to selectively close to short circuit the first terminal to the second terminal.

LLC converter and control

A programmable switch converter controller for a power stage with a switch, an inductor, and a diode, includes a pulse-width modulator. The pulse-width modulator is configured to: generate an on-time interval (Ton) that is fixed or proportional to a demand signal proportional to a load adapted to be coupled to an output of the power stage; generate an off-time interval (Toff) that is inversely proportional to the product of a voltage across the inductor while the switch is off and a demand signal proportional to the load; initiate Ton when Toff elapses; and initiate Ton responsive to an external trigger signal.

An example apparatus includes: a first diode having a first diode terminal; a transformer having a transformer terminal; a second diode having a second diode terminal and a third diode terminal, the second diode terminal coupled to the transformer terminal; a first switch having a first current terminal and a second current terminal, the first current terminal coupled to the first diode terminal, the second current terminal coupled to the third diode terminal; a second switch having a third current terminal, the third current terminal coupled to the second diode terminal and the transformer terminal; a capacitor having a first capacitor terminal and a second capacitor terminal, the first capacitor terminal coupled to the second current terminal; and a third diode having a fourth diode terminal and a fifth diode terminal, the fourth diode terminal coupled to the first capacitor terminal, the fifth diode terminal coupled to the capacitor.

Methods and apparatus to increase an operational range of a duty cycle of a two-switch flyback converter

In an example, a current estimating circuit includes a current estimating resistor coupled in series with a current estimating capacitor. The current estimating resistor and the current estimating capacitor are configured to provide a voltage across the current estimating capacitor during a first portion of a switching cycle, in which the voltage across the current estimating capacitor is proportional to an inductor current that flows through an inductor. The current estimating circuit includes a sense resistor configured to provide a sensed voltage across the sense resistor during a second portion of the switching cycle. The current estimating circuit includes a switch configured to apply the sensed voltage to the current estimating capacitor to provide the voltage across the current estimating capacitor during the second portion of the switching cycle.

System and method for estimating a current in an inductor of a power converter

In described examples, a circuit includes a voltage sensor that has an output, first and second transconductance amplifiers, first and second switches, a capacitive element, a comparator, and a sampling circuit. Each of the first and second transconductance amplifiers has a respective input, a respective output, and a respective transconductance. The first switch is coupled between the voltage sensor output and the first transconductance amplifier input. The second switch is coupled between the voltage sensor output and the second transconductance amplifier input. The capacitive element has a first terminal coupled to the respective outputs of the first and second transconductance amplifiers. The comparator has a respective input and a respective output. The comparator input is coupled to the respective outputs of the first and second transconductance amplifiers and to the first terminal of the capacitive element. The sampling circuit is coupled to the output of the comparator.

Current sampling in converter circuits

Disclosed examples include flyback converters, control circuits and methods to facilitate secondary side regulation of the output voltage. A primary side control circuit operates a primary side switch to independently initiate power transfer cycles to deliver power to a transformer secondary winding in a first mode. A secondary side control circuit operates a synchronous rectifier or secondary side switch to generate a predetermined cycle start request signal via a transformer auxiliary winding to assume secondary side regulation and to cause the primary side controller to initiate new power transfer cycles.

An adaptive capacitive filter circuit includes: a first terminal adapted to be coupled to a rectifier bridge output; a second terminal adapted to be coupled to a ground terminal; a first capacitor having a first electrode and a second electrode, the first electrode of the first capacitor coupled to the first terminal; a second capacitor having a first electrode and a second electrode, the second electrode of the second capacitor coupled to the second terminal; a first switch coupled between the second electrode of the first capacitor and the second terminal; a second switch coupled between the first terminal and the first electrode of the second capacitor; and a third switch coupled between the second electrode of the first capacitor and the first electrode of the second capacitor.

Adaptive capacitive filter circuit

An example controller includes: an absolute value circuit having a voltage output and first and second power inputs, the first and second power inputs adapted to be coupled to an alternating current (AC) power source, and a comparator having a comparator output and first and second comparator inputs, the first comparator input coupled to the voltage output, the second comparator input adapted to be coupled to an output terminal of a power factor correction (PFC) circuit, and the comparator output adapted to be coupled to a control input of the PFC circuit.

Methods and apparatus to improve power factor correction circuits with voltage multiplier assist

A circuit includes a transformer having first and second transformer inputs and first and second transformer outputs. The first transformer output can be adapted to be coupled through a capacitor to a first input of an output stage. The second transformer output can be adapted to be coupled to a second input of the output stage. The circuit also includes a switching system having first and second inputs and first and second switching outputs. The first input can be configured to receive a switching signal. The second input can be configured to receive an input voltage. The first and second switching outputs respectively can be coupled to the first and second transformer inputs.

DC transformer load regulation circuit

A frame beam member may include a tubular volume. The tubular volume may include at least one wall with one or more undulations in a radial direction along a length of the tubular volume. The one or more undulations may be configured to allow the tubular volume to absorb energy of a load applied during a flight scenario through local bending of the one or more undulations. The one or more undulations may be configured to have a first curvature when unloaded, and may be configured to have a second curvature when the load is applied. The second curvature may be different than the first curvature. The frame beam member may be one of a plurality of frame beam members of the aircraft seat frame. The plurality of frame beam members may be configured to couple to a plurality of joints of the aircraft seat frame.

Control circuits and methods to operate a switch of a DC-DC converter, including an output circuit to turn the switch off to control a peak inductor current in a given switching control cycle, and a modulation circuit to implement transition mode (TM) or continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation for a given switching control cycle by causing the output circuit to turn the switch on in response to an earlier one of a first signal, that represents an inductor current of the DC-DC converter, decreasing to a reference voltage that represents a zero crossing of the inductor current for the TM operation or the first signal decreasing to a valley reference signal that represents a non-zero value of the inductor current for the CCM operation.

One example includes a battery charging system configured to charge a battery associated with a mobile device. The battery charging system includes a transformer configured to receive an AC charging current via a charging cable at a primary inductor and to generate an AC secondary current at a secondary inductor. The battery charging system also includes a rectifier system configured to rectify and filter the AC secondary current to generate a DC charging current that is provided to charge a battery.
