An asphaltic roofing membrane is produced by applying asphaltic material to reinforcement, adding first granules without preheating, removing loose granules, applying second granules without preheating, heating the membrane and then cutting the asphaltic membrane; and rolling the cut membrane. The process supports granules of varying sizes, materials, and colors, resulting in a durable, high-reflectance roofing membrane.

Roofing membrane, and associated method

A roofing system includes a roofing membrane. The roofing membrane has a surface energy of 40 mN/m or less. The roofing system includes a roofing substrate. The roofing system includes an adhesive disposed between the roofing membrane and the roofing substrate. The adhesive includes a styrenic block copolymer. The styrenic block copolymer is present in an amount of 0.5 wt. % to 30 wt. % based on a total weight of the adhesive. The adhesive includes asphalt. The asphalt is present in an amount of 70 wt. % to 99.5 wt. % based on the total weight of the adhesive. A ratio of the styrenic block copolymer to the asphalt in the adhesive is 1:11 to 1:3.

Adhesives for low surface energy materials

Some embodiments of the present disclosure relate to roofing systems. In some embodiments, the roofing system includes a deck, a roofing material, and an underlayment configured to be positioned between the roofing material and the deck. In some embodiments, the underlayment comprises a foil layer and an adhesive layer that is attached to the foil layer and configured to be attached to the deck. Methods of manufacturing roofing systems are also disclosed.

Non-limiting embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a method comprising: obtaining asphalt shingle waste (ASW) and performing grinding, screening, and separating steps on the ASW. In some embodiments, granules are removed from the ASW. In some embodiments, the method transforms ASW into ASW powder. In some embodiments, the ASW powder is formed into a plurality of briquettes. In some embodiments, at least one of: the ASW powder, the plurality of briquettes, or any combination thereof is fed into a mixing process that results in an ASW powder filled coating. Building materials such as structural panels, beams, roof decking, and flooring panels, are packaged within a protective layer including a sublayer of a polymeric material that can be applied at the factory. The protective layer protects the underlying building materials from exposure to weather and potential damage due to handling during shipping, at a job site, and which can be left in place during construction, thus eliminating the need for temporary protective measures covering the building materials. The protective layer may have additional properties such as breathability, fire resistance, and sound absorption. The protective layer also may provide an underlayment such as for flooring and roofing.

A surface covering comprising at least one layer containing aluminum oxide is disclosed. Preferably, the aluminum oxide is present in the outermost layer of the surface covering which is exposed to the environment. A method to improve wear and/or stain resistance to a surface covering is also disclosed and includes adding an effective amount of aluminum oxide to a top coat layer or outermost layer of a surface covering. Methods of making the surface covering are also disclosed.
