A technique facilitates improved setting of downhole devices, e.g. frac plugs. The technique utilizes a setting tool, e.g. a disposable setting tool, which integrates the functionality of a wireline adapter kit to provide a compact disposable solution for setting downhole devices. The setting tool comprises a self metering system which slows an otherwise violent setting action to a controlled setting sequence. The self metering system enables avoidance of the use of slow burn charges sometimes used in conventional setting tools.

An apparatus that is usable with a well includes a tubular assembly and an expansion tool. The tubular assembly has a radially contracted state and includes a restriction. The restriction is adapted to catch an object that is deployed into the well to form a fluid barrier when caught by the restriction. The expansion tool is deployed downhole with the tubular assembly inside a tubing string. The expansion tool is adapted to deform the tubular assembly to anchor the tubular assembly to the tubing string.

Isolation assembly

An embodiment may take the form of a method usable with a well including communicating an untethered object downhole in the well to land the object in a restriction to form a fluid barrier, and using an agent carried by the untethered object to seal at least one gap in the fluid barrier. Another embodiment may take the form of an apparatus usable with a well having a solid component to be deployed and be communicated downhole as an untethered object to land in a restriction in the well to form a fluid barrier and an agent attached to the solid component to seal at least one gap in the fluid barrier.

A system includes a casing string and a buoyancy assist tool that is disposed in the casing string. The buoyancy assist tool includes a tubular body, a wiper plug assembly, and a degradable member. The wiper plug assembly is disposed inside the central passageway of the tubular body, and the degradable member retains the wiper plug assembly to the tubular body.
