A gas turbine engine component includes a structure having a cooling passage providing upstream and downstream portions separated from one another by an inner wall and fluidly connected by a bend. First and second trip strips are respectively arranged in the upstream and downstream portions. The first trip strips are arranged at a first spacing from one another. The second trip strips are arranged at a second spacing from one another. A turbulence promoter is arranged in the bend and at a third spacing from the first trip strips that is different than the first spacing. The turbulence promoter is arranged at a fourth spacing from the second trip strips that is different than the second spacing.

Gas turbine engine serpentine cooling passage with chevrons

Two pairs of ribs define three intermediate cooling chambers. Each rib in each pair extends parallel to the other rib in the pair. The ribs in a first pair are non-parallel to the ribs in a second pair. A first rib from the first pair is positioned spaced toward the leading edge. A first rib of the second pair is then serially positioned spaced toward the trailing edge. A second rib of the first pair is then positioned toward the trailing edge relative to the first rib in the second pair. A second rib in the second pair is then positioned toward the trailing edge relative to the second rib in the first pair.

Method for forming turbine blade with angled internal ribs

A die for forming a lost wax ceramic core allows the formation of non-parallel separating spaces between adjacent portions of the core. The core will eventually form cooling channels in an airfoil. The die for forming the core includes a plurality of moving parts having rib extensions. At least some rib extensions are non-parallel to form the non-parallel spaces. The die includes two main die halves that come together to form several of the spaces. Inserts move with those die components and come together to form other spaces. At least one of the inserts contacts surfaces on one of the die halves, such that the non-parallel spaces are formed.

Apparatus for forming turbine blade with angled internal ribs

A coolable airfoil having a passage for discharging particulates entrained in cooling air is disclosed. Various construction details are developed to provide clean cooling air to the leading edge of the airfoil. In one embodiment, a chordwise duct extends past a spanwisely extending supply passage to the inlet of a spanwisely extending rear passage such that momentum effects direct the flow of a portion of cooling air and particulates from the duct, past the entrance of the supply passage and into the rear passage and a larger portion of the flow of cooling air into the supply passage for cooling the leading edge of the airfoil.

Coolable airfoil

This invention serves to cool the lubricant used by a mechanical constant speed drive (CSD) driving an aircraft alternator which aircraft is powered by a turbofan engine. The system cooling capacity is supplemented by an existing engine fuel/oil heat exchanger thereby effectuating a reduction in size of the CSD fan air/oil heat exchanger and minimizing an aircraft engine performance penalty.
