Chemical agent warfare materials and their simulant liquids are identified on terrestrial surfaces at a distance by recognizing the contaminant's infrared fingerprint spectrum brought out in thermal luminescence (TL). Suspect surfaces are irradiated with microwave light that is absorbed into the surface and, subsequently, TL is released by the surface. An optics receiver collects the released TL radiant light, and a data acquisition system searches this TL radiant flux for the contaminant's fingerprint infrared spectrum. A decision on the presence or absence of any-of-N contaminants is done by a neural network system that acts as a filter through real-time pattern recognition of the contaminant's unique infrared absorption or emission spectra.

A projectile grenade launching system tester, comprising a battery, a fem jack to receive voltage from a grenade launcher, a plurality of operational amplifiers to receive constant current from the battery and to receive firing voltage from the grenade launcher through the female jack, a plurality of opto couplers to complete circuits should the voltage from the grenade launcher be greater than 0.5 volts, a plurality of light emitting diodes to indicate by lighting that greater than 0.5 volts is being received and a push button switch to open the circuit and permit resetting of the tester.

Projectile grenade launching system tester

Apparatus for growing cultures of microorganisms comprised of an inert ri porous member having passageways extending therethrough and structure for bringing liquid in contact with one side of the member. In one species of the invention, the passageways are small enough to prevent microorganisms from flowing through them.

Apparatus for growing microorganism cultures

A voice channel remote control system for operating remote smoke generators or battlefield operations. The system includes a transmission end for sending a voice channel signal and a receiving end for receiving and acting on the signal. A tone generator for sending a tone signal of a least one tone digit from the transmission end is included. Also included is a microphone at the receiving end for receiving the tone signal. A tone decoder is operably connected to the microphone pickup, with the decoder being adapted to validate and decode the tone signal to provide a binary coded decimal output for receiving the tone signal to thereby provide a coded decimal output. This output is connected to a decoder/driver which transforms the decimal output to provide a driving signal. Finally, a relay receives the driving signal and transmits an activation signal to thereby activate the remote smoke generator device.

A grenade launching apparatus launches a number of grenades and has a conller and a launcher. The controller controls the launching and includes a selector which is responsive to operator input for selecting one or more of the grenades to be launched. The controller also includes a display for indicating that a selected grenade has been launched. The launcher is for launching one or more of the grenades and includes a firing circuit which is responsive to the selector. The firing circuit activates the launcher to launch each selected grenade. The launcher also includes a launch detector for detecting that a selected grenade has been launched by the firing circuit. The display of the controller is responsive to the launch detector.

Grenade launching apparatus

A conformable acoustic coupler for ultrasonically testing an article. The upler has an ultrasonic transducer with an active surface which transmits ultrasonic energy pulses to an article to be tested. A sensor receives and measures an ultrasonic echo from the tested article. The article to be tested is acoustically mated to the active surface by a medium of a gelatinous material layer on the active surface and a flexible film on the gelatinous material layer. The combination of the gelatinous material and film conforms to the shape of the article and provide acoustic coupling between the active surface and the article without leaving a residue of the medium on the article.

Conformable acoustic coupler

An apparatus which serves to control automatically the speed of a pump acding to the temperature of the oil being pumped from a reservoir. The controller is comprised of a parallel bank of thermal switches each connected to its dropping load resistor through a series isolation relay which places the load on a motor which drives the oil pump directly related to the viscosity of the oil in the reservoir.

Pump speed controller-nuclear hardened/temperature responsive

An electrical system which serves to control the firing of multiple grenade aunchers. The system generates multiple coded tone pairs for up to sixteen launchers which are provided to the launchers through a +28VDC line connected to the vehicular power supply. The tone pairs are decoded enroute to each launcher which exercise a firing circuit triggering the grenade launcher's firing squib causing the grenade to launch.

Enhanced grenade launcher - big shot

A control system is provided for igniting and dispensing a smoke pot for ense of a hulled vehicle. The system utilizes a command circuit located inside the vehicle for using the vehicles power source to select smoke pot operations. A user can select an operation to ignite a desired smoke pot or an operation to ignite and release the smoke pot. Two power lines are arranged from the command circuit inside the vehicle to a control circuit located at the exterior of the hull for operating the smoke pot control system. A minimum number of apertures are required in leading the power lines to the control circuit. The control circuit activates the selected operations of the smoke pots.

Smoke pot dispenser control circuit

An electrical system for launching separate salvos, comprised of squibs, jectile bombs or the like, at different times but at the same launch location from a remote position using a single electrical control wire for carrying the current. The system is comprised of a negative polarity relay and a positive polarity relay respectively connected with a first and second salvo, a power supply comprised of two 24 volt batteries supplying power to the circuit from opposite terminals, a selecting switch connected with the batteries to select either positive or negative current to match the relay and salvo desired to be fired, an ignition switch for closing the circuit and a single control wire running from the ignition switch to the relays carrying the positive or negative current required for launching the chosen salvo. By using the selector switch and matching the polarity sensitive relay of the salvo to be fired with the enabling current and pressing the ignition switch, only the desired relay contacts close and the projectiles are launched.

Polarity sensitive grenade firing system

A NBC hardened double shot grenade launcher utilizes a latching relay and delays to sequentially activate two secondary relays. The delays keep the latching relay from operating until a relay switch transfers supply voltage to enable firing of double the number of salvos without modification of the original supply line.

Double shot grenade launcher

A low cost warning system for armored vehicles which uses multiple sensors ontaining detectors for IR and millimeter wave signals emanated by attacking missiles and/or projectiles to allow the launching of screening grenades. The sensors telemeter their coded signals to a receiver inside the vehicle which process the coded signals to direct the exercise of an active screening defense.

Tank alerting system

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for clearing the uling black powder residues deposited on the electrical connectors of electrically detonated munitions. A female connector is provided with a recurved lanced outer spring clip which automatically scrapes off the residue on an insulator and contact surfaces of a male bipolar connector plug when the two connectors are rotated with respect to each other.

A projected grenade simulator test circuit is used for checking the operaity of a grenade launcher system by exactly duplicating both the physical and electrical characteristics of an actual grenade.

Projected grenade simulator

A method of defending against a warfare cloud of toxic aerosol utilizes a charged defensive aerosol which is sprayed into the cloud. The defensive aerosol is made of a defensive agent which may be chemically or biologically active. The agent is sprayed through charged nozzles to impart a charge to the aerosol. The charge should be at least several thousands of volts with respect to ground so that particles of the defensive aerosol combine and coagulate with particles of the toxic aerosol to neutralize and cause rapid settling of the warfare cloud.
