Various aspects and embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to methods and compositions (e.g., kits) for the identification of subjects with misfolded proteins in their urine. For example, methods and compositions for determining that a urine sample from a pregnant woman contains or does not contain misfolded are provided. In some embodiments, the presence of misfolded proteins in a urine sample from a pregnant woman is an indication of preeclampsia.

Methods and kits for detecting misfolded proteins

An apparatus and system for analyzing one or more points of interest. The apparatus includes a main support having first and second legs. The first and second legs extending transversely from the main support. The main support nests an imaging device capable of capturing an image of a point of interest during use. An imaging shroud is coupled to and extending from the first leg, the shroud having a first opening for surrounding the point of interest. A second opening in the shroud is positioned such that it extends to be within the main support for the passage of a captured image of the point of interest during use.

Portable image diagnostic apparatus and system

The present invention provides methods and compositions related to the detection and/or monitoring of the levels of angiogenic factors, specifically VEGF, PlGF and sFlt-1, in urine samples obtained from pregnant women and the effects of such levels on the risk of developing complications of pregnancy, including hypertensive disorders such as preeclampsia, in the first, second, and/or third trimester of pregnancy. The present invention also provides kits for identifying and screening patients at risk of developing a complication of pregnancy, such as preeclampsia.

Diagnosis of preeclampsia

Described herein are biomarkers, such as protein biomarkers, which are diagnostic of and predictive for complications that result from an in utero encounter, such as an infection by the fetus, that can lead to premature birth (PTB). The biomarkers can be used to identify fetuses and newborns at risk for complications of PTB, such as (Early Onset Neonatal Sepsis) EONS, intra-ventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and other poor outcomes.

Markers for detection of complications resulting from in utero encounters

The invention relates, in part, to methods of using proteomic biomarkers to diagnose preeclampsia. In some aspects the invention, in part, relates to the detection of serpina-1 polypeptide and/or albumin polypeptide in samples from pregnant subjects. Samples from subjects may be compared to control samples to diagnose preeclampsia and/or to determine the onset, progression, or regression of preeclampsia in a subject. The invention also relates, in part, to screening methods to identify agents that can be used to treat preeclampsia and to determine the efficacy of a preeclampsia treatment. The invention, in part, also includes kits that are useful to diagnose and assess preeclampsia in a subject.
