A structure for a vehicle includes a body and an energy absorber assembly. The body extends in a transverse direction of the vehicle and is configured to be secured to a main body structure of the vehicle. The energy absorber assembly extends from the body. The energy absorber assembly also includes arcuate absorber elements configured to deform laterally upon impact in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle. When a vertical force is applied to the structure, the body is configured to inhibit deflection of the structure in a vertical direction.

A component positioning device including at least one resilient structure that centers the component. For example, a spring that acts between a grille and a grille opening to center the grille within a grille opening. The spring generating a reaction force sufficient to self-adjust the grille within the grille opening wherein opposing springs are deployed on either side of the grill with the springs exerting a force on and moving the grill until the force exerted by the opposing springs reaches equilibrium.

A slip plane bracket for a front end sub-assembly of a vehicle and method of assembling the front end of the vehicle is disclosed. The slip plane bracket attaches a headlamp module to a bolster at a front end of a vehicle to facilitate adjustment of the headlamp module location relative to the front fascia, headlamps and grille. Headlamp modules are assembled to a bolster through a slip plane bracket interface that is adjustable in X (longitudinal) and Y (lateral) directions to achieve improved fit relative to adjacent modules. According to the method, a pair of headlamp modules is attached to the bolster with an adjustable fastener to set the height of the modules. Slip plane brackets are assembled to tabs provided on the headlamp modules and the location of the slip plane brackets is adjusted in a longitudinal plane and a lateral plane.

An attachment system for connecting a vehicle fascia birds beak element to a vehicle front end module bolster includes a bracket having a fascia-engaging portion and a bolster-engaging portion. The bolster-engaging portion includes one or more bracket locator structures configured for engaging cooperating structures disposed on the bolster to self-orient the bracket in a predetermined orientation. The system further includes a vehicle front end module bolster having a bracket-engaging portion that includes one or more bolster locator structures configured for engaging cooperating structures disposed on the bracket to self-orient the bracket in the predetermined orientation.

An energy absorber assembly for a motor vehicle includes a first deformable energy absorbing component and at least one deformable second energy absorbing component associated with a grille assembly of the motor vehicle. The first energy absorbing component defines at least one receiver for engaging a corresponding portion of the at least one second energy absorbing component whereby the receiver and the mating surface remain engaged on receiving an impact. The first energy absorbing component is carried on a bumper assembly or attached to a fascia assembly of the motor vehicle, and the second energy absorbing component is included in a grille carrier component of the motor vehicle grille assembly.

An automobile bumper system including an isolator disposed adjacent a cross beam of an automobile frame, and a fascia disposed adjacent the isolator to substantially cover the isolator. A plurality of fascia support anti-rattle springs may be mounted to the isolator and disposable in contiguous engagement with the fascia for maintaining the fascia adjacent the isolator in a fascia predetermined position and further biasing the fascia away from the isolator to the fascia predetermined position. The fascia support anti-rattle spring may include an end mounted to the isolator and an engagement detent for contiguously engaging the fascia and thereby biasing the fascia away from the isolator to the fascia predetermined position.

An automobile bumper including an isolator including one or more step surfaces integrally formed on the isolator. The step surface(s) may provide a gripping surface for permitting a user to step on for loading and unloading objects from the automobile. A fascia cover may be attachable to the isolator and include a cutout for allowing the step surface(s) to protrude through the cutout to prevent direct contact of the user's foot with the fascia.

A bumper assembly for a motor vehicle includes a bumper structure having a bumper beam adapted for attachment to a structure of a motor vehicle such as a frame or rails, or the like. A hitch is attached to the bumper beam, and a bumper cover conceals the bumper beam. The bumper cover has an opening for accessing the hitch and an access door for selectively concealing the hitch. The access door is mounted to the bumper structure such that the access door will be retained upon the bumper structure not only when the access door is concealing the hitch but also when the access door is open to allow an accessory such as a trailer to be coupled to the hitch.
