The present invention relates to a copolymer obtainable by copolymerization of (A) at least one unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or derivatives thereof, (B) at least one &#x3b1;-olefin having from at least 6 up to and including 20 carbon atoms, (C) optionally at least one C- to C-alkyl ester of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid or a mixture of such alkyl esters and (D) optionally one or more further copolymerizable monomers other than monomers (A), (B) and (C), with a molar incorporation ratio of (A):(B):(C):(D) of 1:0.5 to 2.0:0 to less than 0.5:0 to 0.1 followed by the reaction with at least one dialkylamine (E), where the two alkyl radicals in the at least one dialkylamine (E) are independently alkyl radicals having at least 17 up to 30 carbon atoms.

Copolymer and use thereof for reducing crystallization of paraffin crystals in fuels

The present invention relates to a novel copolymer, to processes for preparation thereof and to the use thereof.

The use is described of polymers which contain, in copolymerized form, an &#x3b1;-olefin, a vinyl ester and an ester of an &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic acid as an additive for fuel oils and lubricants and in particular as a cold flow improver in fuel oils. In addition, the fuel oils and lubricants additized with these polymers; and also additive packages comprising such polymers are described.

The invention relates to the use of polymers which comprise, in copolymerized form, an &#x3b1;-olefin, at least one alkenyl ester and at least one ester of an &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic acid with higher alcohols as an additive for fuel oils and lubricants and especially as a cold flow improver in fuel oils; to the fuel oils and lubricants additized with these polymers; and to additive packages comprising such copolymers. The invention also relates to quaternary and higher copolymers which comprise the abovementioned monomers in copolymerized form.

Cold flow improver

Provided is a mixture containing: (a) a polar oil-soluble nitrogen compounds which is capable of sufficiently dispersing paraffin crystals precipitated out under cold conditions in a fuel and is a reaction product formed from reacting a poly(C- to C-carboxylic acid), which has at least one tertiary amino group, with a primary or secondary amine; (b) an oil-soluble acid amide reaction product formed from reacting a polyamide, which has from 2 to 1000 carbon atoms, with a C- to C-fatty acid or fatty acid-like compound, which has a free carboxyl group; and (c) an oil-soluble reaction product formed from reacting an &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-dicarboxylic acid, which has from 4 to 300 carbon atoms, or a derivatives thereof, with a primary alkylamine, wherein the sum of components (a) to (c) constitute 100 wt. % of the mixture. The mixture is suitable as a paraffin dispersant in fuels, especially those having a biodiesel content.
