In general, techniques are described for a creating a virtual network router via a user interface (UI) presented by a software defined network (SDN) architecture. A network controller comprising a memory and processing circuitry may perform the techniques. The memory may store the UI, while the processing circuitry may present the UI and execute a control node. The UI may graphically represent a topology of a network including first and second virtual networks. The UI may dynamically generate a graphical element representative of a virtual network router by which to interconnect the first and second virtual networks. The virtual network router may represent a logical abstraction of one or more policies that cause one or more of import and export of routing information between the first and second virtual networks. The control node configures the first virtual network and the second virtual network according to the one or more policies.

An example application programming interface (API) server device that distributes configuration data to managed network devices includes one or more processing units implemented in circuitry and configured to receive configuration data to be deployed to at least one of the managed network devices; store the configuration data to a configuration database; and send the configuration data to the at least one of the managed network devices. In this manner, the configuration data can be archived for later retrieval and analysis, e.g., to perform root cause analysis in the event of an error.

A method includes subscribing, by an agent, to telemetry flow data from each network device of a plurality of network devices and receiving, by the agent, a plurality of streams of telemetry flow data from the plurality of the network devices. The method further includes aggregating, by the agent, data from at least one stream of the plurality of streams of the telemetry flow data received over a period of time and, at the end of the period of time and/or when the data from the at least one stream exceeds a data threshold, sending, by the agent, the aggregated telemetry flow data to a network analyzer device.

In general, techniques are described by which to provide a topology-based graphical user interface for network management systems. A controller device comprising a processor and a memory may be configured to perform the techniques. The processor may monitor network devices arranged according to a network topology to obtain operational data, and obtain configuration data defining the network topology. The memory may store the operational data and the configuration data. The processor may analyze the configuration data and the operational data to provide a graphical representation of the network topology that graphically depicts the operational data, and present a single graphical user interface that presents the graphical representation of the network topology that graphically depicts the operational data.

A method includes determining, by a controller device that manages a plurality of network devices, device characteristic information for a network device of the plurality of network devices and selecting, by the controller device, one or more sensors from a plurality of sensors based on the device characteristic information for the network device. The method further includes outputting, by the controller device, an instruction to cause the network device to generate the one or more selected sensors at the network device and receiving, by the controller device, sensor information from the one or more selected sensors generated at the network device.
