An image blur correcting unit allows the optical axis of a lens system to coincide with the center of an imager, thus correcting an image blur. The unit includes a stationary member and a holder member. The holder member holds either one of the elements of the lens system or the imager and moves relative to the stationary member in a first direction and a second direction, the first and second directions being orthogonal to each other in a plane orthogonal to the optical axis. The unit further includes a first guide section and a second guide section for guiding the holder member in the first and second directions during movement, and a driving section moving the holder member in the first and second directions. The one of the elements of the lens system or the imager is disposed outside an area surrounded by the first and second guide sections.

An image blur correction unit includes the following elements. A holder member, holding either an imager or a lens that constitutes a part of a lens system, moves in a straight line on a plane orthogonal to the optical axis of the lens system. A movable member, attached to a frame that serves as an outermost component, supports the holder member. A guide member guides movement of the holder member relative to the frame. A driving section drives the holder member. The guide member includes a guide shaft fixed to the movable member and support portions provided for the frame, the support portions supporting the guide shaft. The movable member moves relative to the frame while being integrated with the guide shaft.

An image stabilizer includes a driver having a coil and magnet, where a correcting lens on a moving frame is moved by the driver in a first direction perpendicular to an optical axis of a lens system and in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction and optical axis, and an optical axis of the correcting lens corresponds with the optical axis of the lens system. The coil and magnet are fixed to the moving frame and a supporting frame; the driver includes first and second coils for moving the correcting lens in the first and second directions, and a magnet applying magnetic force to those coils; and thrust generated from the first and second coils are directed in the first and second directions, each forming an angle of approximately 45&#xb0; with a line connecting the optical axis of the correcting lens and the center of a lens barrel.
