An apparatus includes a display panel having a first pixel area having a first pixel density and a second pixel area having a second pixel density higher than the first, the panel configured to generate images viewable from a front side and a sensor positioned at the back side arranged to receive incident light transmitted from the front to the back through the first pixel area. The first pixel area has light emitting pixels and signal lines electrically connecting pixel circuits associated with the pixels, and the panel includes a layer having a light blocking material patterned to provide apertures to transmit the incident light between some of the light emitting pixels and the signal lines and to block the incident light from the pixel circuits and the signal lines. Apertures can have different dimensions.

Suppressing scattering of light transmitted through OLED displays

The present disclosure provides an electronic device utilizing a flexible display panel with multiple relief features formed in a periphery bending portion of the flexible display panel. The multiple relief features may facilitate lamination of the flexible display to a curved cover layer. The flexible display panel may have a circular shape utilized in a wearable device. An active area for displaying images may extend to the periphery bending portion of the flexible display panel, thus provided a wide viewing range for a user as well as enhancing an overall aesthetic appearance of the electronic device.

Flexible OLED display with reliefs

This document describes systems and techniques directed at enlarging active areas of displays in electronic devices. In aspects, a display includes a grid of transistors positioned within a display panel module to control an illumination of one or more electroluminescent layers. Routing lines extend from one or more transistors of the grid of transistors to at least one electroluminescent layer. In this way, the at least one electroluminescent layer can be positioned away from the grid of transistors and disposed above portions of display panel module driving circuitry. As a result, active areas of displays can be enlarged and information content can be maximized without a panel border area allotted to the display panel module driving circuitry surrounding transistors having to be reduced.

Enlarging active areas of displays in electronic devices

Display panel redundancy schemes and methods of operation are described. In an embodiment, and display panel includes an array of drivers (e.g. microdrivers), each of which including multiple portions to independently receive control and pixel bits. In an embodiment, each driver portion is to control a group of redundant emission elements.

Display panel redundancy schemes

Light emitting structures and methods of fabrication are described. In an embodiment, LED coupons are transferred to a carrier substrate and then patterned to LED mesa structures. Patterning may be performed on heterogeneous groups of LED coupons with a common mask set. The LED mesa structure are then transferred in bulk to a display substrate. In an embodiment, a light emitting structure includes an arrangement of LEDs with different thickness, and corresponding bottom contacts with different thicknesses bonded to a display substrate.

A display configuration to facilitate imaging through the display is disclosed. The imaging can be achieved by positioning a camera behind a transmit/receive area () of a display. The transmit/receive area is configured to reduce the interaction between the light propagating through the display and circuit elements of the display. The configuration of the transmit/receive area can be characterized by reduced pixel density, rearranged circuit elements (), and as light blocking layer () to prevent light from diffracting from gaps formed by circuit elements ().

Emissive display configured for through-display imaging based on collimator structure

In general, the subject matter described in this disclosure can be embodied in a display panel. The display panel includes a first area of multiple pixels that has a first density of light emitting diodes (LEDs), and that has an equal representation of LEDs of a first color, a second color, and a third color. Each pixel in the first area has: (i) a first sub-pixel comprising an LED of the first color, (ii) a second sub-pixel comprising an LED of the second color, and (iii) a third sub-pixel comprising an LED of the third color. The display panel includes a second area of multiple pixels that borders the first area, that has a second density of LEDs that is lower than the first density, and that has an unequal representation of LEDS of the first color, the second color, and the third color.

Triad sub-pixel arrangements for under display sensors

This document describes systems and techniques directed at mitigating display diffraction flares for under-display sensing. In aspects, an equation may be derived that models the effects of a display in producing a diffraction phenomenon at an image plane of a sensing region for an under-display light-sensing device. The equation may be used to determine an arrangement (e.g., an optimized arrangement) of components (e.g., sub-pixels) within the display that minimizes a diffraction efficiency for at least one diffraction order and, thereby, mitigates an intensity and/or a prevalence of optical artifacts in light-sensing data. In implementations, an image intensity point-spread-function is utilized to calculate diffraction efficiencies for respective diffraction orders (e.g., the lowest diffraction orders, the diffraction orders with the greatest brightness).

Mitigating display diffraction flares for under-display sensing

A mobile computing device includes an emissive display panel, where the panel is used as a grating, and spectrometer optics positioned behind/below the emissive display panel. The emissive display panel includes a first periodic pattern of pixels that include one or more LEDs and a second periodic pattern of circuit elements that control the pixels, where the first and second periodic patterns are configured to diffract light received from outside the device, which passes through the emissive display, and where the diffraction is wavelength-dependent. The spectrometer is configured to detect intensities of different wavelength ranges of the diffracted light.

A display panel includes a first set of pixels that each include a respective red sub-pixel and a respective green sub-pixel and a second set of pixels that each include a respective blue sub-pixel and a respective green sub-pixel, where the first set of pixels and the second set of pixels are arranged on the display panel such that at least one side of each of the pixels in the first set of pixels is adjacent to at least one of the pixels in the second set of pixels, at least one side of each of the pixels in the first set of pixels is not adjacent to any pixel, and the green sub-pixels are arranged on the display panel such that the green sub-pixels are evenly distributed in the display panel.

Pixel arrangement for multi-resolution display panel

A display configuration to extend the light emitting and touch sensitive portion of a display panel into areas normally reserved for other light devices is disclosed. In the configuration, light devices and the display panel are configured to operate together. The display panel may include an aperture through the display panel to provide an unobstructed light path to a light device. The display panel may also include a routing area to provide space for data lines feeding pixels to be rerouted around the aperture. The routing area is partially obstructed by data lines but otherwise transparent. Accordingly, some display devices may be positioned behind the routing area and still operate.
