In one embodiment, an apparatus for transmitting a signal with an improved termination is disclosed. The apparatus includes a driver to generate a differential mode signal superimposed on a common mode signal at a differential driver output of the driver. The differential driver output includes a first driver output and a second driver output. The apparatus also includes a termination circuit coupled between the first driver output and the second driver output. The termination circuit includes a capacitor connected to a node. The termination circuit also includes a first resistor and a first inductive element coupled in series between the first driver output and the node. In addition, the termination circuit includes a second resistor and a second inductive element coupled in series between the second driver output and the node.

Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to simultaneous transmission of clock and bidirectional data over a communication channel. An embodiment of a transmitting device includes a modulator to generate a modulated signal including a clock signal and a data signal, the clock signal being modulated by a first signal edge of the modulated signal and the data signal being modulated by a position of a second signal edge of the modulated signal; a driver to drive the modulated signal on a communication channel; an echo canceller to subtract reflected signals on the communication channel; and a data recovery module to recover a signal received on the communication channel, the received signal being encoded by Return-to-Zero (RZ) encoding, the signal being received simultaneously with driving the modulated signal on the communication channel.

An embodiment of an apparatus includes an linear regulator to receive a system power supply and to generate a regulated power supply; a first voltage reference generator to generate a first voltage reference for the linear regulator; a second voltage reference generator to generate a second voltage reference for the linear regulator; and a voltage reference and power switcher. In some embodiments, the voltage reference and power switcher is to switch a voltage reference for the linear regulator from the first voltage reference to the second voltage reference and is to switch a part of a power supply for the linear regulator from the system power supply to the regulated power supply.

An embodiment of a method includes detecting a transition of a control bus from a high state to a low state by a source device, the source device being configured to be coupled with a sink device via an interface, the interface including the control bus, the source device including a pullup device and the sink device including a pulldown device; pulsing the control bus to a high state at the source device; and upon detecting by the source device that the control bus remains in the high state ceasing the pulsing of the control bus to the high state, and transitioning the source device from a disconnected state to a connected state.

A system and method for multiple-phase clock generation is disclosed. In one embodiment, a multiple-stage voltage controlled oscillator (&ldquo;VCO&rdquo;) transmits a plurality of clock phases to a clock divider circuit which produces the desired number of clock phase outputs. The clock divider circuit in this embodiment includes a state machine, e.g., a modified Johnson counter, that provides a plurality of divided down clock phases, each of which is connected to a separate modified shift register. Each modified shift register contains D-type flip-flops and each D-type flip-flop provides a separate clock phase output. In one embodiment the number of clock phase outputs of the multiple-phase clock is a function of the number of VCO clock phases times the number of desired states in the modified Johnson counter.

System and method for multiple-phase clock generation

A voltage controlled oscillator (&ldquo;VCO&rdquo;) circuit capable of generating signals with reduced jitter and/or low-phase noise is provided. One embodiment provides a plurality of cascaded VCO cells, where each VCO cell can include a source coupled differential pair, a bias transistor connected to the differential pair for biasing the differential pair, a resistive load pair connected to the differential pair, and a voltage controlled capacitor pair or varactor pair connected to the differential pair. The varactors provide control over the frequency of the oscillations produced by the VCO circuit in combination with a control voltage. A phase frequency detector combined with a charge pump and loop filter provide the control voltage.
