A quad-roll curler apparatus includes a first roll, a second roll, a third roll, and a fourth roll. The curler apparatus is adjustable to a first processing configuration wherein three of the four rolls are engaged to impart a curl in a sheet in a first direction. The curler apparatus is adjustable to a second sheet processing configuration wherein three of the four rolls are engaged to impart a curl in a sheet in a second direction that is different from the first direction.

Quad-roll media curling apparatus, systems, and methods

A reversing apparatus within a media path comprises an input nip moving sheets of media in a first direction, and a reversing nip positioned to receive the sheets of media from the input nip. The reversing nip stops the sheets and moves the sheets in a second direction opposite the first direction. Also included is an output nip positioned to receive the sheets of media from the reversing nip, and an actuator connected to the reversing nip. The actuator moves the reversing nip relative to a position of the input nip and the output nip, based on a characteristic of the sheets of media.

Embodiments described herein include a substrate media registration system in a printing system. The registration system can include a deskewing system, a reflexive system, and a controller. The deskewing system is configured to deskew substrate media. The reflexive system is configured to detect the lateral position of the substrate media and at least one of a lead edge and a trail edge of the substrate media being transported in the process direction. The controller is operatively coupled to the reflexive system and is configured to control ejection of ink from a print head system in response to detecting the lateral position of the substrate media and at least one of the lead edge and the trail edge of the substrate media.

According to aspects illustrated herein, there are provided systems for conveying a sheet article into an intended pathway. The multi-way gate system for diverting sheets into multiple pathways in a sheet conveying device includes at least three pathways for directing the sheet from the sheet conveying member in a particular direction. A single gate plate is between the sheet conveying member and the pathways. The single gate plate is rotatable about a single axis to direct the sheet exiting the sheet conveying member toward one of the pathways.

The method monitors the position of an area of pressure roller that carries release agent and synchronizes a media transport to insert a media sheet into a nip formed with the pressure roller so the release agent on the pressure roller exits the nip as the leading edge of the media sheet enters the nip. The circumference of the pressure roller is an integral number times the length of the media sheet plus inter-document gap.

High productivity spreader/transfix system for duplex media sheets in an inkjet printer

A printing system comprises a paper path architecture for parallel printing using multiple marking engines. The media path configuration enables all the media feed trays to be located in one place, relative to the marking engines. A cross-over module is located between marking engines. The cross-over module can interleave media sheets that are being transported away from a first marking engine with the sheets being transported to the second marking engine. The cross-over module also includes a straight through path that enables media sheets to be transported directly to a finishing device without going through either marking engine. The marking engines include internal duplex loops such that media can be supplied to each engine in alternate groups. A merge module selectively merges the media which can then be further processed in a finishing transition module prior to communication to a finishing device.

Printing system architecture with center cross-over and interposer by-pass path

A method of using a buckle for relieving the stresses in sheets caused by differential displacements of drive nips during the registration process includes creating a buckle between pre-registration nips and registration nips. The velocities of the pre-registration nips and registration nips are closely controlled so that the magnitude of buckle between them is large enough to relieve the stresses in the sheet during the registration process, yet small enough to not interfere with the registration process.

Method and apparatus for relieving stress in a pre-registration nip

A merge module suited to use in a printing system in which streams of marked print media arrive at angularly spaced directions from two marking engines includes a first media transport section which receives a first portion of print media and outputs it in a first direction. Radial merge module for printing system

A printing system is provided comprising a marking engine and an inverter. The inverter includes an entrance path having a first reversing inverter drive nip system and a second reversing drive nip system. The printing system further includes a marking path and a duplex path whereby a plurality of media sheets move through the entrance path, the marking path and the duplex path in a first order sequence. The plurality of media sheets return to the entrance path wherein the plurality of media sheets are inverted and moved again through the marking path in a second order sequence.

Media transport system

A system and method for registering a sheet transported along a sheet path of a printing system, including receiving a sheet at a first location, transporting the sheet along the sheet path from the first location in a downstream direction at a first speed. The speed at which the sheet is transported is decreased from the first speed to a second speed. The transported sheet is received at a second location downstream from the first location and registered at the second location, including correcting at least one of lateral position of the sheet, skew of the sheet, and timing error in a downstream direction.

System and method for extending speed capability of sheet registration in a high speed printer

A print job processing method at least includes: providing processing attributes for particular print stock, including a predetermined fuser dwell time; establishing a print job, including the stock to be used for each page of the print job; for each page in the print job, selecting the appropriate subsystem containing the stock specified for the particular page; for each page in the print job, transferring image substance to each sheet to be printed, the placement of the image substance corresponding to an image to be duplicated on the page; matching the appropriate portion of the processing attributes to each subsystem; for each page, automatically fusing the image substance to the page according to the dwell time established by the processing attributes for the stock used for the page; and outputting processed pages.

Automatic fuser control

A self-adaptive sheet feeding roll for reliably feeding, within a sheet feeding apparatus, sheets of various and different sheet weights along a sheet path. The self-adaptive sheet feeding roll includes (a) a cylindrical core having a longitudinal axis and an outer surface; (b) a compliant surface layer formed over the outer surface of the cylindrical core and having an external surface and a given layer thickness; and (c) a series of spaced apart, non-radial slots formed from the external surface into the compliant surface layer and defining a series of spaced apart blade portions within the compliant surface layer for adaptively compressing and deforming against, and responsively to, sheets of various and different sheet weights, thereby self-adjusting a normal force Fn as well as a sheet driving force Fd thereof and enabling reliable feeding, within a sheet feeding apparatus, of such sheets of various and different sheet weights.
