A contact cover for a notification appliance mounting plate is disclosed. In one embodiment, the contact cover includes a plastic body, wherein the plastic body is sized to cover less than an entire surface area of the notification appliance mounting plate, at least one piece of metal, a means for coupling said at least one piece of metal to said plastic body and one or more polarized tabs.

Contact cover and shunt for notification appliance mounting plates and method for installation

A mounting plate assembly for a notification appliance is disclosed. For example, a mounting plate is designed with at least one aperture for receiving a plurality of leads, e.g., from a backbox. In turn, these leads can be received by a plurality of contacts that are deployed on the mounting plate. In one embodiment, at least two of these contacts are in physical contact with each other at a juncture, thereby providing connectivity between these two contacts. However, the physical contact at the juncture is non-resettable, i.e., if a force is applied to the juncture, then the connectivity is severed and the physical contact between the two contacts cannot be easily re-established even if the force is removed.

A mounting plate assembly for a notification appliance. For example, a mounting plate is designed with at least one aperture for receiving a plurality of leads, e.g., from a backbox. In turn, these leads can be received by a plurality of contacts that are deployed on the mounting plate. The present invention generally discloses a weatherproof flush adapter plate assembly. In one embodiment, the adapter plate assembly includes a plate. The plate includes a front side, a back side, an outer edge, at least one inner edge, at least one mounting member for receiving a back box and at least one mounting member for receiving a notification appliance. The adapter plate assembly also includes a first gasket coupled to the front side of the plate and a second gasket coupled to the back side of the plate.

A strobe alarm has a multi-position switch for selecting a predetermined strobe intensity. The strobe alarm comprises a strobe assembly having selector switch, an indicator and a menu. The selector switch is positioned within the strobe alarm to discourage tampering. The indicator and menu are positioned in plain view for easy determination of the intensity setting of the strobe alarm.

The bases of an audible alarm unit and an audible/visible alarm unit are configured to be used interchangeably with a single cover. The cover has an opening that receives a projecting wall portion on the base of the audible alarm unit and a receptacle for a strobe lamp unit on the base of the audible/visible alarm unit. The bases have mounting holes that enable the alarm units to be mounted on several types of standard backboxes, the cover concealing the screw holes for good appearance of the installed units.

A generally square mounting plate for attaching the cover of an audible-visual alarm to a backbox includes a plurality of openings along each side of the plate. The openings are configured and positioned to accommodate the mounting bolt placement of various standard backboxes, including 4-inch, international, single-gang and double-gang backboxes. Indicia are provided on the front of the plate to guide the installer in the correct assembly of the plate to the backbox to provide a desired orientation of a feature of the alarm, advantageously a strobe unit. The alarm generating components, e.g., a strobe unit and/or an acoustic transducer, may be carried either by the alarm cover or by the mounting plate.

A strobe light of a type suitable for safety, notification, and intrusion systems and the like includes a base, a lens having a generally cylindrical side wall defining an opening at one end, having an end wall at the other end and being attached at its open end to the base, and a lamp/electronics assembly mounted on the base and received within the side wall of the lens. The base has a generally planar main wall that is shaped and dimensioned such as to form closure for the opening of the lens side wall and having a front surface facing the end wall of the lens and a rear surface facing away from the end wall of the lens. A generally centrally located mounting boss having a threaded socket is adapted to receive a threaded mounting member. A box-mounting flange projects from the rear surface of the main wall portion, the box-mounting flange being substantially square in plan and being shaped and dimensioned to present a substantially planar rearwardly-facing edge that is wide enough to engage the edges of the side walls of either standard four-inch or standard 100-millimeter electrical boxes. Knockout holes in the main wall adjacent each corner of the box-mounting flange receive screws for attaching the base to electrical boxes.
