Device for controlling tension in a web of packaging material

Device and method for controlling axial forces acting upon a moving web comprises first, second and third rotatable rollers. The third roller is between the first and second rollers and is movable in a circular path in the vertical plane between lower and upper positions in response to axial forces acting at any moment upon the web. To enable a simple manual installation of the web, the upper position of the third roller is at a sufficient vertical distance above the first and second rollers to form an open horizontal passage through which the web can pass freely between the first and second rollers and the above-situated third roller. Axial forces are controlled by biasing the third roller with a force which counters the motion of the third roller in the direction of the upper working position and which is less than the ultimate tensile strength of the web.

Safety device in opening arrangements for packaging containers

A method and apparatus for transferring tabs to a continuous material web in connection with the manufacture of packaging material in conversion machines includes the use of a transfer wheel which is located between a supply station for tabs and a deposit station, in which the wheel is located in contact with the packaging material web. With the aid of retainer jaws displaceable in a circumferential direction of the wheel, and fixedly disposed abutments, the position of each tab transferred to the wheel is corrected before the tab reaches the deposit station, so that the transfer to the packaging material web takes place in accurate register with markings previously provided on the web. The method and apparatus is well-suited for use in connection with continuous material webs travelling at high rates of speed, such as 400 to 500 meters/minute.

A packaging material for producing packages includes a foundation layer that is provided with a through hole. A thermoplastic strip covers the through hole and an outer layer completely covers the thermoplastic strip and foundation layer. Various other layers can also be laminated to the foundation layer. When the thermoplastic strip is torn off, the various other layers accompany the thermoplastic strip, thereby exposing the through hole.

The plural cylinders comprising a printing unit in a rotary printing press, are mounted for synchronous rotation within a single frame structure, aligned under the impression cylinder, such that the frame structure including the cylinders is removably securable to the printing press as a cassette unit.
