A drilling system configured to drill a borehole into a subsurface formation, including a steering device. The steering device is configured to convey a fluid supply through a valve to an outside surface of the steering device, wherein the fluid flow causes a steering force on the steering device. A method for drilling a borehole into a subsurface formation, including disposing a steering device in the borehole, rotating the steering device, urging a fluid to flow through a valve of the steering device to an outside surface of the steering device, wherein the fluid flow causes a steering force on the steering device.

A downhole motor, having a body having an outside surface and a longitudinal extent, a first flow passage defined within the body and disposed along the longitudinal extent of the body, and a second flow passage extending from the first flow passage to a channel at the outside surface, wherein a Bernoulli suction force is created at the channel. A method for drilling a borehole, including directing a fluid through a first flow passage defined within a body of a drill and disposed along the longitudinal extent of the body, directing a portion of the fluid from the first flow passage through a second flow passage to a channel at an outside surface to create a Bernoulli suction force at the channel, and drilling a curved section of the borehole by using the Bernoulli suction force at the channel.

Downhole motor with steering capability

A downhole assembly that includes tubulars rotationally coupled to one another. An interface is between adjacent tubulars that makes up at least a portion of the rotational coupling. Certain surfaces of adjacent tubulars come into contact with one another when adjacent tubulars are rotationally coupled; and which are defined as contact surfaces. Each contact surface is profiled with facets that are complementary to facets on a corresponding contact surface of an adjacent tubular. The profiling of the contact surfaces is such that when a contact surface is brought together with a corresponding contact surface; facets on the contact surface abut facets on the corresponding contact surface along planes that are oblique or parallel with an axis of the tubular. At least some of a rotational torque transmitted between adjacent tubulars occurs across the abutting facets.

A wired pipe system includes a wired pipe segment having a first end and a second end and a first coupler in the first end and a second coupler in the second end. The system also includes a transmission line disposed in the wired pipe segment between the first and second ends. The transmission line includes an inner conductor, an insulating material surrounding the inner conductor, an outer conductor surrounding the insulating material and the inner conductor for at least a portion of a length of the transmission line, the other conductor being formed by deforming around the inner conductor a sheet of material into a substantially tubular member.

A downhole tool including a body having a hydraulic fluid chamber, and a flexible multi-layer barrier impermeable to gas and water mounted at the body separating the hydraulic fluid chamber from fluids external to the body. The flexible multi-layer barrier including a first elastomeric layer, a second elastomeric layer, and a gas impermeable layer arranged between the first elastomeric layer and the second elastomeric layer, the gas impermeable layer being formed from a metal layer.

Systems and methods to perform a downhole operations in a borehole comprising moving, using surface equipment, an inner structure and an outer structure within the borehole, the outer structure equipped with an interaction device and the inner structure configured to be moved relative to the outer structure in a direction parallel to the borehole by the surface equipment, transmitting, by a transmitter, a downlink instruction to the inner structure, and performing an interaction routine with the interaction device in response to the downlink instruction, wherein the interaction routine comprises an interaction at least partially outside of the outer structure to perform the downhole operation.

A wired pipe system includes a wired pipe segment having a first end and a second end, a first coupler in the first end and a second coupler in the second end and a transmission line disposed in the wired pipe segment between the first and second ends. The transmission line includes a transmission cable that includes an inner conductor and an insulating material disposed about the inner conductor as well as a a wire channel surrounding the insulating material and the inner conductor for at least a portion of a length of the transmission cable. The wire channel and the insulating material are mated together by at least one mating feature.

A wired pipe system includes a wired pipe segment having a first end and a second end and a first coupler in the first end and a second coupler in the second end. The system also includes a transmission line disposed in the wired pipe segment between the first and second ends. The transmission line includes an inner conductor, an insulating material surrounding the inner conductor, an outer conductor surrounding the insulating material and the inner conductor for at least a portion of a length of the transmission line, the outer conductor being formed by deforming around the inner conductor a sheet of material into a substantially tubular member.

A connector for use in connecting a communication element to a transmission line in a wired pipe segment includes a first female end adapted to surround and make electrical contact with a coupler connection that extends away from a communication element of the coupler; a second female end adapted to receive an inner conductor of a coaxial cable; and an inner connection element formed on an inner surface of the connector adapted to electrically connect the coupler connection and the inner conductor, the inner connection element formed such that it does not completely surround at least one of the inner conductor and the coupler connection.

System and methods for engaging and disengaging running tools with a liner in a downhole system are described herein. The system and methods include a liner disposed in a borehole, the liner having at least one running tool engagement section, a running tool disposed within the liner, the running tool having at least one engagement module that is operable from a disengaged position to an engaged position and that is operable from an engaged position to a disengaged position, and an electronic device disposed at least one of in or on the engagement module.

A wired pipe segment includes a body extending from a box end to a pin end and a coupler located in one of the box and pin ends. The coupler includes a carrier having at least one electrical component disposed therein and one or more antennas supported by and spaced from the carrier and being electrically coupled to the carrier through at least one of the electrical components, the antennas being formed in the carrier in a same molding machine. The segment also includes a transmission line extending away from the coupler towards the other of the box and pin end and in communication with the one or more antennas.

A downhole tool includes a tool body having an inner surface portion and an outer surface portion. The outer surface portion includes a recess having a peripheral wall and an inner surface. A multi-chip module (MCM) housing is defined in the recess. The MCM housing includes one or more fortifying members that support axial and radial loading of the downhole tool and include one or more electronics receiving zones.

A downhole tool includes a tool body having an outer surface portion and an inner surface portion and a recess formed in one of the outer surface portion and inner surface portion. At least one removable electronic component access member is detachably mounted to the tool body. The removable electronic component access member provides access to electronic components housed in the recess. A metallic seal is provided on at least one of the tool body and the removable electronic component access member. The metallic seal prevents fluid ingress into the recess through the at least one removable electronic component access member.
