A process and rotary printing machine for indirect rotogravure printing without intermediate drying, wherein the printing ink with a viscosity in the range of 80 to 1000 mPa s is supplied to the rotogravure form cylinder by a chamber doctor. Additionally, the transfer cylinder carries a covering with a closed surface, low surface roughness, low wettability and high radial compressibility.

An offset rubber-blanket sleeve having a support sleeve in the form of a layered body. The layered body is produced from a plastic, preferably rubber, as a base material and the base material is reinforced by layer inserts embedded therein. For the register of a sleeve-shaped offset priming form in which the beginning and end of the plate-shaped blank of the printing form are connected by a weld seam, a guide element in the form of a projection is provided for the sleeve at the inside of the sleeve. A form cylinder which can be used in combination with the sleeve has a groove extending along its entire width, which groove has a depth that is greater than the height of the projection. The projection can be inserted completely into the groove so that the sleeve can be secured on the form cylinder in the circumferential direction.

An apparatus for the automatic changing of new and used printing plates in sheet-fed offset printing machines, having a plurality of printing units, includes a central printing plate storage container and a printing plate transport apparatus. Mounted on each plate cylinder of a printing unit is a guide device which is pivotable so as to be capable of being thrown onto the plate cylinder and off from the latter and via which a new printing plate can be fed from above to the plate cylinder and, with the plate cylinder slowly rotating backwards, a used printing plate can also be conveyed out and upwards. Mounted above the printing machine is a guide rail on which a travelling carriage of the transport apparatus, having plate gripping and lifting devices, can be moved along all the printing units of the printing machine. The transport apparatus conveys the used printing plates from the printing units to the central printing plate storage container and, from the latter, new printing plates are provided to the respective printing units, where these printing plates are fed to the plate cylinder via the gripping and lifting device and via the respective thrown-on guide device.

Apparatus for the automatic changing of printing plates

A pair of web pulling cylinders, particularly for use in printing machines, wherein a single-layer or multiple-layer web is conveyed between the cylinders which are pressed together. The cylinders are driven and are in driven connection through drive elements mounted on cylinder journals. If the web is deflected around one of the cylinders, a differential gear unit is provided to adapt the circumferential speeds of the cylinders to the thickness of the web being pulled.

An adjusting device having two degrees of freedom serves to adjust the distance between the axes of the inking roller and the screen roller and/or the distance between the axes of the inking roller and the plate cylinder, wherein the adjustment is carried out by the adjusting device in accordance with a measurement value determined by a measuring element which interacts with the adjusting device.

An offset blanket for a grooveless blanket cylinder for applying a printed image onto web material or sheet material is composed of a carrier plate which has been cut to size and a rubber layer placed on the carrier plate. The beginning and the end of the carrier plate of the rubber layer are connected to each other so that the outer circumferential surface of the blanket is continuous and without gaps. The blanket surrounds the blanket cylinder in the operating position in the form of a sleeve in a frictionally engaging manner but releasably. A register device is provided on at least one end face of the blanket for securely positioning the blanket on the blanket cylinder.

The invention relates to a device for changing over to single-side printing or perfecting on sheet-fed rotary printing machines. Two respective pairs of intermediate spur wheels are disposed between the printing cylinder spur wheel and the turning drum spur wheel, a first pair of the intermediate spur wheels being in the form of a double wheel. The second pair of intermediate spur wheels are secured to a solid shaft or hollow shaft, preferably received in a control means for selectively driving the solid and hollow shaft in unison or differentially to one another. In another embodiment a set of intermediate wheels includes spur wheels associated with first and second printing cylinders. Intermediate spur wheels are disposed between the printing cylinder spur wheels and an annular wheel coupled to the turning drum. The intermediate spur wheels are likewise secured to a solid shaft or hollow shaft received in the control means for selectively driving the solid and hollow shaft in unison or differentially to one another.

Device for changing over to single-side printing or perfecting on

To receive, store and deliver printed products in minimum space, with a device which can, itself, be stored in minimum space when free of products, a steel tape or ribbon (1, 21) is formed with U-shaped cuts (7) to define, within the ribbon, tongues (5, 22). The tape or ribbon is guided in a curved path, typically about a guide roller (4, 23), which causes the tongues to flare out tangentially. When in flared or projecting position, products (8, 33) can be pushed in the space between the extended tongues and the remainder of the tape or ribbon material which, upon then being guided in an essentially linear path, will cause the tongues to close and grip the products, whereupon the tape or ribbon with the products, thereon can be rolled into a storage roll. To release the products, the path of travel of the tape or ribbon or reversed, causing the tongues to open as they pass over the roller (4, 23), and the then empty ribbon can be rolled tightly, since the tongues will fold themselves into the cut-outs from the ribbon and not take up additional space, deflecting in curved position by the pressure of succeeding windings or turns of the rolled ribbon or tape.

To form a stack of essentially uniform height of folded products, typically newspapers, in which each one of the folded products (1, 2) may include a plurality of sheet elements, such as newspaper sections, the folded products being formed, for example, with a longitudinal fold (3, 4) and a cross fold (5, 6). The products (1, 2) are spread apart by suitable spreaders (26, 27; 46, 47; 64, 65) to hold the sheet portions spread-apart in open V-shaped configuration; holders (24, 25; 46, 47; 48, 48'), having at least two parts, hold sequentially first and second alternate folded products, one of the folded products being rotated 180.degree. with respect to the other, for example by a rotary apparatus (32; 31; 42; 59), the then rotated products being interdigited with the non-rotated products upon being moved towards each other, for example being laterally fed towards each other by a gripper robot, by approaching conveying chain guides, or by being moved vertically against each other, to form a double-comb-like interdigited assembly of the first and second products which, when stacked vertically, will provide a stack of circumferentially essentially uniform height.

A sheet-conveying drum for skew register correction in multicolor printing that does not affect the drive in sheet-fed rotary presses. The sheet-conveying drum comprises gripper bars and support or carrying webs that are disposed on a drum shaft. The web disposed nearest the drive input has on its flange an arcuate bearing surface around which the drum body can be skewed relatively to the drum shaft. The web disposed opposite the drive input is coupled to an adjusting eccentric bushing by way of a flange to cause the drum to skew. The movements of drum skewing do not adversely affect the drive and, therefore, the transmission ratios of the sheet-guiding cylinders relative to one another.

A suction transfer actuation system for a transfer drum of a multi-color sheet-fed rotary printing press for turning successive sheets, by rear-edge turning, during the sheet transfer from one printing unit to another to facilitate printing on the back side of the sheets. A plurality of suction arms are rigidly connected to a hollow suction rocker shaft connected to actuating levers carrying guide rollers engaging curved guide cam surfaces on a guide bar mounted on the transfer drum. The suction actuation system is driven by way of a cam rigidly mounted on the press frame engaged by a cam follower roller to oscillate a drive lever coupled by a link to a drive arm on the rocker shaft to rock the suction arms toward and away from the one printing unit under the guiding influence of the guide cam and guide rollers.

A suction transfer actuation system for a transfer drum of a multi-color sheet-fed rotary printing press for turning successive sheets, by rear-edge turning, during the sheet transfer from one printing unit to another to facilitate printing on the back side of the sheets. A plurality of suction arms are rigidly connected to a hollow suction rocker shaft connected to actuating levers carrying a pair of guide rollers engaging a curved outer guide cam surface on a guide bar mounted on the transfer drum. The suction actuation system is driven by way of a cam rigidly mounted on the press frame engaged by a cam follower roller to oscillate a drive lever coupled by a link to a drive arm on the rocker shaft to rock the suction arms toward and away from the one printing unit under the guiding influence of the guide cam and guide rollers. A pair of compression springs disposed substantially at right-angles to one another and radially with respect to the rocker shaft bias the guide rollers against the outer guide cam surface. One end of each compression spring is articulated on the actuating lever and the other end is supported by and bears against the body of the sheet transfer drum.

For automating the placement or removal of printing plates on plate cylinders (16, 17) of rotary printing machines, particularly web printing machines, an application head (11) is secured to a multiple linked roboter arm (2), slidable vertically along a guide post (1). The roboter arm can be pivoted about the axis of the guide post, moved vertically thereabout, and includes a plurality of joints (3, 4, 5, 6) which connect roboter arm link elements (7, 8, 9, 10). The positioning head (11) is located at the roboter arm element (10) most remote from the guide post. The guide post is positioned between the axes of rotation of printing cylinders of adjacent printing stations, axially removed from the path of the web between the printing stations, so that interference with the web is effectively avoided.
