The invention relates to the technical field of domestic networks. A domestic network based on the present UPnp-Standard allows AV connections to be set up between two network subscriber stations&#x2014;Network connections such as these are set up and managed under the control of a network station which is in the form of a control point. In this case, the UPnP-Standard allows the network station which is the form of a control point to log off the network after setting up an AV connection, and thus to be inactive while the AV connection that has been set up is in existence. This results in the problem that an AV connection which has been set up unnecessarily remains in existence even after the desired AV data stream has been transmitted, so that further connection requests for such stations must be answered with a rejection. The invention solves this problem in that it provides additional monitoring means in the network subscriber stations which determine whether the connection has remained unused for a specific time. If yes, a signaling request is sent to all the network subscriber stations. If the connection partner station does not then respond, the connection which has been set up can likewise be added autonomously by the requesting station.

The invention relates to the field of data transmission in a network of distributed stations. In this case, the network contains a network connection switching unit which sets up desired connections between network subscriber stations arranged in a star formation. The network system under consideration has provision for network stations to log on in the network using a logon message and to log off using a logoff message. Regular turn-on and turn-off operations allow these logon and logoff messages to be sent. One problem is that when the network cable for a network station is manually decoupled from the network connection switching unit () the decoupled network station is no longer able to transmit the proper logoff message. The invention solves the problem through additional means in the network connection switching unit. These detect the decoupling of a network station. The detection means then initiate the automatic sending of the proper logoff message by the network connection switching unit. To this end, the network connection switching unit records all information about the individual network stations which is required for generating a proper logoff message.

The invention relates to the technical field of local data transmission networks, in particular domestic networks. In networks such as these, the network stations log on in connection to the network. On disconnection, the network station which is leaving the network logs off in an appropriate manner. In the situation in which the user disconnects a network station simply by pulling out the network cable from the network, it is physically impossible to transmit the logging-off message. The invention is now concerned with the problem of how reliably an inactive network station can be identified, also taking account of the disconnection of the network station simply by pulling out the network plug. The invention solves the problem by regular transmission of a search request to the stations in the network. If a search request remains unanswered by one network station, an HTTP access is additionally attempted to, for example, the device description of the network station in question, or a control request. The network station is identified as being inactive only if this access/control request also fails. In the case of a UPnP network, the search request is made using the unprotected SSDP protocol, so that the lack of any response to the search request does not in its own right reliably indicate that the network station has logged off. The supposition that the network station which did not respond to the search request is inactive is confirmed by means of the HTTP access, which takes place on an error-protected basis.

The invention relates to the technical field of home networks. A home network based on the present UPnP standard (Universal Plug and Play) allows data to be interchanged between network subscriber stations. A UPnP standard may have one or more control point devices. To allow profile information such as user profile or network profile to be interchanged, the invention proposes providing a control point device firstly with an expanded device ascertainment service which can be used to find the other control point devices in the network and also with one or more additionally implemented profile services which allow the other control point devices in the network to be notified about change to profile information on a control point device.

In the transfer of AV data flows, especially in a network environment, a delayed transition from one operating mode to the other operating mode will be possible when changing the operating mode from e.g. normal replay to fast forward search. This is due to the fact that&#x2014;in the transfer from data source to data sink different buffer memory stages must be passed before the transferred data finally come to decoding. When the request for changing the operating mode comes, the data already present in the buffer memories must first be processed before the actually requested new data come to be decoded. For the solution of the problem described, it is suggested according to the invention that after the request of changing the operating mode the undesirable data in the buffer memories are quickly eliminated through suitable measures so that the desired data can then be decoded faster. To do that, an identifier for the new operating mode is inserted in the data flow on the part of the data source device. The decoder driver of the decoder in the data sink device will search for the inserted identifier in the data flow and reject all data packets which are not combined with this identifier. Thus, the buffer memory stages are discharged fast and a smooth transition with the change of operating mode will be realized.
