Primarily described are gel-forming systems, consisting of or comprising a composition (A), comprising one or several cationically crosslinkable polymer(s), and a composition (B), comprising one or several crosslinking agent(s) for crosslinking the cationically crosslinkable polymer(s) for use in a method for removing urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, from a region of the urinary tract, more particularly a kidney, that contains urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, that are to be removed, with the following steps: (i) providing the compositions (A) and (B), (ii) introducing the compositions (A) and (B) into a region of the urinary tract, more particularly the kidney, that contains urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, that are to be removed, under conditions enabling crosslinking of the cationically crosslinkable polymer(s) upon contact of composition (A) with composition (B) so that a crosslinked gel is formed that partly or fully surrounds the urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, that are to be removed, (iii) removing the crosslinked gel together with the urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, that are surrounded by it from the urinary tract, more particularly the kidney.

Gel-forming system for removing urinary calculi and fragments thereof

An article, comprising a substrate and a polymer film attached to the substrate is provided, the polymer film comprising a first layer of a first polymer functionalized by a first functionalization compound covalently bound to said first polymer and bearing at least one catecholic group being present on a surface of the first layer. The polymer film is a layered film, a top layer of which is formed by the first layer, the layered film comprising at least one further layer of at least one further polymer functionalized by a further functionalization compound covalently bound to said further polymer and bearing at least one catecholic group being present on a surface of the at least one further layer, wherein an average ratio of catecholic groups per polymer molecule is equal to or less than 1 in case of the first polymer and greater than 1 in case of the further polymer.

Bioinert article and its use

The invention relates to a method for activating a surface by increasing the hydrophilicity and/or for binding target structures, particularly selected from the group consisting of proteins, cellular proteins, proteins, cells, carbohydrates, peptides and amino acids. Described is a kit for producing a crosslinked gel for surrounding urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, comprising a composition (A) comprising one or several cationically crosslinkable polymer(s), and a composition (B) comprising one or several crosslinking agent(s) for crosslinking the cationically crosslinkable polymer(s), wherein composition (A) and/or composition (B) additionally comprise(s) magnetizable particles or the kit additionally comprises a composition (C) that contains magnetizable particles. Upon contact of composition (A) with composition (B) in a region of the urinary tract, more particularly the kidney, that contains urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, a crosslinked gel is formed that partly or fully surrounds the urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, and that contains the magnetizable particles. The gel together with the urinary calculi and/or fragments thereof, more particularly kidney stones and/or fragments thereof, can then be removed from the body by using magnetic interactions.

The present invention relates to the use of a crosslinked, silicon-containing layer containing, substantially consisting of or consisting of silicon, O, C, H, optionally N which can be produced by plasma polymerization and/or crosslinking of organosilicon liquids by a plasma process and/or UV radiation of a wavelength of less than 250 nm, without using metals of an atomic number of more than 14, as a biocompatible surface, for imparting to a surface or providing a surface with a non-genotoxic effect.
