A flashbulb having an increased energy density. The composition of the hard glass of the flashbulb is selected such that the components thereof that volatilize easily during a discharge of the flashbulb are at least partially emitter substances that reduce the work function at the cathode member.

A gas discharge lamp having an accurate centering of electrodes. The gas discharge lamp has a gas-filled glass tube whereby the electrodes are inserted at end faces of the glass tube. Each electrode is melted into respectively a hollow-cylinder-type glass member residing inside an end of the glass tube. The outside end face of each glass member lies approximately flush with the corresponding end face of the glass tube and is coated, together with the end face of the glass tube, with a layer of glass solder.

A flash lamp which has two electrodes of refractory metal fused into a glass housing. In order to enable a soft-soldered connection, the outer end of the electrodes is respectively connected to a soft-solderable metal coating.

A flashbulb wherein short radii curvatures are allowed for a curved plasma channel without overloading the walls, so that a high luminance is obtained. The discharge space (9) between two electrodes (4, 5) is annularly formed. The outside wall (1) forms a closed hollow cylinder of glass. The outside wall (1) forms a closed hollow cylinder of glass. The inside walls (7, 8) are composed of white ceramic material which is hermetically fused to the glass.

A gas discharge lamp such as a flashbulb consisting of an anode and a cathode in a transparent housing, the cathode being composed of a sintered member made up of powdered titanium (Ti), and vanadium (V), as well as at least one of the other metals tantalum (Ta) or niobium (Nb), the particles having a grain size of no more than 50 microns, and the Ti being present in a precentage of at least 40% by weight, and the V content being at least 10% by weight.
