The present invention relates to an edible composition comprising plant sterol ester and/or plant stanol ester and triglyceride fat usable for lowering serum LDL cholesterol. The composition further comprises oligosaccharides and sugars. The composition can preferably be used in dietary supplements, fillings and toppings.

Edible composition suitable for lowering serum cholesterol

The invention relates to a capsule consisting of a shell and a filling, which contains plant sterol ester and/or plant stanol ester and emulsifier. The capsule is suitable for lowering serum LDL cholesterol level.

Cholesterol lowering capsules

The present invention relates to a serum LDL cholesterol lowering edible product containing plant sterol ester and/or plant stanol ester, and especially to a dietary supplement product.

Serum cholesterol lowering edible product

A stanol composition containing in addition to sitostanol as the main component, also a substantial amount of at least 10% campestanol has been found to effectively lower serum cholesterol levels when incorporated in edible commodities. Upon esterification the composition is especially useful in edible fats and oils and in fat-containing foods.

Stanol composition and the use thereof

The invention relates to a stable beverage comprising at least one texture component selected from the group consisting of unhomogenised vegetable puree, fruit pulp and fruit puree, optionally unhomogenised vegetable juice and/or fruit juice, optionally homogenised vegetable material and/or fruit material, and a plant sterol ester and/or plant stanol ester in an amount of from 0.2 to 25% by weight of the beverage. Beverage and a method for preparation thereof

The present invention is related to improved compositions for reducing serum total and/or LDL cholesterol levels. The compositions are combinations of dietary fiber and plant sterol. The compositions are used as such or more advantageously in food products and comprise one or several fibers, preferably &#x3b2;-glucan, in combination with one or several plant sterols and/or stanols in their free and/or esterified forms.

Edible compositions for lowering cholesterol

The invention relates to a terapeutical composition comprising a protein hydrolysate and a plant sterol, wherein the weight ratio of the plant sterol to the protein hydrolysate is from 1:0.02 to 1:150. Fatty acid esters, such as the unsaturated fatty acid esters of sterols and/or stanols, are used as a replacement for a substantial portion or all of the undesirable saturated and trans-unsaturated fats used as structure giving hardstocks in edible foods such as margarines, mayonnaise, cooking oils, cheeses, butter and shortening. Because of the similarity in the crystallinity and physical properties of the esters to those of the undesirable hardstock fats, the substitution or replacement contributes favorably to the flavor, texture and other sensory properties of the foods. Only the fatty acid portion of the phytosterol esters defined herein as texturizing agent is digested or absorbed with the sterol part being unabsorbable, thereby resulting in a reduction in total caloric uptake. Furthermore, the phytosterol fatty acid esters reduce the absorption of both dietary and biliary cholesterol from the digestive tract, thereby lowering the blood serum cholesterol level, especially the LDL-cholesterol.

Fat compositions for use in food

This invention relates to phytosterols and phytostanols, in particular to fatty acid esters of phytosterols and phytostanols with a specified fatty acid composition. The invention further relates to methods for preparation of the phytosterol and phytostanol esters and their uses.

Phytosterol compositions

The invention relates to a substance which lowers LDL cholesterol levels in serum and which is fat soluble &#x3b2;-sitostanol fatty acid ester, and to a method for preparing and using the same. The substance can be taken orally as a food additive, food substitute or supplement. A daily consumption of the &#x3b2;-sitostanol ester in an amount between about 0.2 and about 20 g/day has been shown to reduce the absorption of biliary and endogenic cholesterol.
