A method of producing a digital beamformer signal by a number of antenna modules that are alike and by providing a system that implements the method. This is accomplished by introducing signal processing on each antenna module and by creating an asynchronous serial adding chain through the antenna modules to at least in part calculate the digital beamformer signal. Advantageous embodiments according to the invention perform time and space signal processing multiplexing to calculate additional digital beamformer signals.

Method and a unit for beam control of an array antenna

An antenna element ( ), comprising a wave-guide ( ) comprising a number of slots ( ) being pairwise arranged, preferably at 90 degrees to one another and &plus;/&minus;45 degrees to the longitudinal direction of the waveguide has been described. The antenna element is coupled to a feeder ( ) for providing a first wave inside the wave-guide (W_a) The antenna element comprises at least one amplitude and phase control unit (APC, ) for controlling the phase and amplitude of a reflected or separately provided second wave (W_b) in relation to the first wave, the second wave propagating inside the wave-guide in an opposite direction to the first wave (W_a), whereby the polarization of an emitted or received wave (W) outside the wave-guide can be controlled. Moreover, a transceiver ( ) adapted for controlling the polarization modes and a method for operating such a transceiver has been described.

Tuneable antenna

Coupling arrangement ( ) for a stripline network, which comprises a first ( ) and a second ( ) ground plane, which ground planes are arranged essentially parallel to one another, extend in a common main direction, and each have at least one aperture ( ), a stripline conductor ( ) arranged between the first ( ) and the second ( ) ground plane, a first dielectric layer ( ) located between the stripline conductor ( ) and the first ground plane ( ), and a second dielectric layer ( ) located between the stripline conductor ( ) and the second ground plane ( ). The stripline conductor has a first main surface ( ) facing towards the first ground plane and a second main surface ( ) facing towards the second ground plane. Coupling arrangement for a stripline network

The invention sets forth an aerial (1) having at least one plane spiral arm (3 . . . 3 ) being provided in front of and parallel with a plane face of a reflecting member (4), the aerial furthermore having a ferro-electric member (2) arranged between the at least one spiral arm (3 . . . 3 ) and the reflecting member (4). An interface circuit provides an adjustable bias voltage over the at least one arm (3 . . . 3 ) and the reflecting member (4) for varying the dielectric constant of, and thereby the delay through, the ferro-electric member (2). In this manner, the aerial is tuned to various frequencies of interest and providing for an enhanced antenna gain. According to a further aspect of the invention an interface circuit provides individually controllable bias voltages to respective spiral arms for accomplishing tuning of the axial ratio and/or impedance match of the aerial.

Tuneable spiral antenna

A method and arrangement improve antenna performance parameters. The antenna includes a radiating device for radiating a beam in a substantially predefined direction. The radiating device is provided on a supporting structure. The arrangement includes at least one device to mechanically tilt the radiating device in a first direction substantially diverging from the predefined direction, and a device to tilt the beam in a second substantially opposite direction electrically.

Method and arrangement relating to antennas

An inexpensive high gain antenna for use on terminals communicating with low earth orbit (LEO) satellites which include an elevation table mounted for arcuate movement about a transverse axis on an azimuth turntable mounted for rotational movement about a central axis. A plurality of antenna elements forming a phased array antenna are mounted on the top of the elevation table and have a scan plane which is parallel to and extends through the transverse axis of the elevation table. The antenna may be both mechanically and electrically scanned and is used to perform handoffs from one LEO satellite to another by positioning the elevation table of the antenna with its boresight in a direction intermediate the two satellites and with the scan plane of the antenna passing through both satellites. At the moment of of handoff, the antenna beam is electronically scanned from one satellite to another without any loss in data communication during the process.
