A laundry treatment apparatus includes: a cabinet, a drum rotatably disposed within the cabinet, a suction duct to which air discharged from the drum flows, a circulation flow path connected to the suction duct and configured to guide the air from the suction duct, an inflow duct connecting the circulation flow path to the drum such that the air received from the circulation flow path flows back to the drum through the inflow duct, a circulation fan configured guide the air between the suction duct and the inflow duct, a heat exchanger that is disposed at the circulation flow path and that is configured to perform heat exchange with the air, and an UV sterilizer disposed at a space that is defined in the circulation flow path at a position above a front surface of the heat exchanger, the sterilizer being configured to irradiate UV light to the heat exchanger.

A laundry treating apparatus may comprise a cabinet that defines an exterior design; a drum rotatably mounted in the cabinet and configured to accommodate laundry; a drive unit or motor configured to rotate the drum; a hot air supply unit or hot air blower configured to supply high-temperature air to the drum and in communication with the drum; a collection portion or liquid chamber provided to collect water condensed from the drum and in communication with the hot air supply unit; and a drainage pump configured to discharge the water collected in the collection portion outside the cabinet such that the laundry treating apparatus may sense whether the condensate collected in the collection portion is frozen and thaw the frozen condensate. Laundry treating apparatus

A washing machine that performs a washing course by heating wash water and a control method thereof are provided. The method includes supplying wash water up to a wash water level for generation of steam such that a portion of laundry received in an inner tub is saturated by the wash water. The wash water level may be above a bottom surface of the inner tub and below a wash water level for main washing. The method then includes heating the wash water to a first set temperature and driving a washing heater to generate steam from the wash water, and supplying the generated steam to the inner tub, and then supplying the wash water up to the wash water level for main washing, and driving the washing heater again to heat the wash water to a second set temperature, the second set temperature being lower than the first set temperature.
