The invention relates to a composition comprising A) microcapsules comprising at least one fat-soluble active substance selected from a vitamin K compound or a provitamin or a prodrug of a vitamin K compound embedded in a matrix comprising a hydrocolloid and optionally one or more other matrix components, and B) at least one dietary mineral; as well as uses and products comprising such compositions.

Using a combination of Kumada, Suzuki and Biellmann chemistry, various menaquinones can synthesized rapidly and with stereochemical integrity offering a new way of preparing these vitamin K2 components for the pharmaceutical market. Process for the preparation of vitamin K2

The disclosure relates to prodrugs of vitamin K2, in particular prodrugs of MK-7 in which the diketone is converted to a monosubstituted or disubstituted ester type derivative. These compounds are shown to give MK-7 in plasma. The disclosure also relates to methods of treating conditions using prodrugs of vitamin K2.
