Systems and methods for driving an accessory of a vehicle. The system includes a power take-off (PTO) device, a mechanically driven accessory, a battery, and power conversion circuitry electrically connected to the battery. The system also includes a first electric motor mechanically coupled to the PTO device and a second electric motor mechanically coupled to the mechanically driven accessory. The system further includes an engageable mechanical connector that, when engaged, mechanically couples the PTO device and the mechanically driven accessory. The system performs operations including engaging the engageable mechanical connector when a speed of the PTO device is within a predetermined speed range; disengaging the engageable mechanical connector when the speed of the PTO device is outside the predetermined speed range; and based on disengaging the engageable mechanical connector, providing electric power to the second electric motor to generate and transfer mechanical energy to the mechanically driven accessory.

Systems and methods for reducing efficiency losses associated with powering vehicle accessories

A vehicular cooling system coolant-return manifold is provided that includes a plurality of ports reconfigurable by the user to open, such that coolant will flow into the manifold, or close, such that coolant will not flow into the manifold. The ports are opened and closed by rotating a valve spool in relation to the manifold body. The ports of the manifold are brought into alignment with holes in the valve spool to open a port such that coolant flows into the manifold. A plurality of positions of the valve spool in relation to the manifold body allow a user to select a position wherein the desired combination of ports are on and off.

A fuel cooler assembly formed in accordance with the present disclosure includes an outer tank shell, an inner tank shell disposed within the outer tank shell, and an access opening defined in the inner tank shell at a first location on the fuel tank. A fuel return cavity is defined between the inner and outer tanks shells, which is in fluid communication with the access opening. A fuel return opening is formed within the outer tank shell, which is in fluid communication with the fuel return cavity at a second location on the fuel tank.

Fuel cooler assembly

A circumferentially supported fan assembly for drawing cooling air through a radiator of a vehicle is described. The fan includes a fan ring extending circumferentially around the periphery of the fan, the blades of the fan extending from a central region to the fan ring. The entire weight of the fan is borne by a fan support assembly which extends around the periphery of the fan ring, outside the path of air flowing through the fan. The fan is the rotor of an electrically driven motor. A rotor flange of the fan ring extends transverse to the axis of the rotation of the fan, providing a greater torque advantage for the motor. An electrical control circuit selectively controls the speed of the fan to maintain the liquid temperature of the radiator below a selected threshold value. As additional cooling is required, the electronic controller gradually and smoothly increases the power drawn from the engine to turn the fan to increase its speed towards a selected speed. The air permeability of the fan when freewheeling is significantly increased because no central shaft or support structure blocks the airflow through the fan.
