The present disclosure relates to a method for chemically modifying particles of a bicarbonate salt in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder and chemically modified bicarbonate particles prepared therefrom. The present disclosure also relates to a method for controlling an amount of carbonate salt formed during chemical modification of bicarbonate salt particles.

A co-rotating twin screw processor for preparing dry granules including an input zone having one or more powder feeders for feeding an input material into the processor, a steam feeder configured to introduce steam as a granulation activating agent in to the processor, a granulation zone for granulating the input material in the presence of steam to form granules, a controller configured to control operation and feed rate of at least one of the powder feeder or the steam feeder such that 2.5 to 5 percent w/w of the steam with respect to the input material is available for granulation, and a discharge zone haring a non-extruding opening for collecting dry granules.

Apparatus for continuous granulation of powder material

A continuous granulation system for obtaining conditioned granules is disclosed. The system comprises a processor configured to produce a continuous flow of granules at an outlet of the processor. The system also comprises a collection chamber positioned downstream from the processor and configured to collect the granules from the outlet. Further, the system comprises an air displacement device coupled to the collection chamber and configured to create a unidirectional flow of air at the outlet in a direction of the granules exiting the processor and away from the outlet. The unidirectional flow of air conditions the granules obtained in the collection chamber. A continuous granulation method and a continuous granule collection system for obtaining the conditioned granules is also disclosed.

Continuous granulation system and method for obtaining conditioned granules

The present disclosure concerns effervescent compositions and methods of making and using the same. In some embodiments, the disclosed effervescent compositions are formed from an input blend comprising an acid and a base by granulating the input blend in a twin-screw processor. The granules formed from the input blend can be formed by an in situ granulating agent, which can be a portion of the acid that melts during granulation. In some embodiments, the effervescent compositions can be made using a twin-screw processor comprising an intake zone for receiving an input blend comprising an acid and a base; a granulation initiation zone for melting only a portion of the acid to serve as an in situ granulating agent; a granulation completion zone for granulating the input blend; and an outlet for discharging the granules.

Methods for granulating a pharmaceutical powder in a single piece of equipment include at least the following: (a) continuously introducing the pharmaceutical powder and a granulating fluid to the single piece of equipment, (b) passing the pharmaceutical powder and the granulating fluid through a granulating zone of the single piece of equipment to form wet granules, (c) passing the wet granules through a drying zone of the single piece of equipment, (d) optionally passing granules through a discharge zone of the single piece of equipment, and (e) continuously discharging the granules from the single piece of equipment where the single piece of equipment is not a fluid bed processor.

The fractional lobe processor comprises an intake zone comprising at least one deep flighted shovel element on each intermeshing screw for receiving a input blend comprising an active substance and an excipient; a granulation zone consisting of only fractional lobe elements, and having a provision for introducing moisture or a binder solution, for granulating the active substance and the excipient; an optional, drying zone for drying the wet granules; and a discharge zone for discharging the granules; wherein the granulation zone is located before the discharge zone and after the intake zone; wherein the drying zone has one or more fractional lobe elements on each shaft; and wherein the granulation zone has a plurality of fractional lobe elements on each shaft.

Processor and a process for granulation of powders

The present invention relates to effervescent compositions of Metformin and optionally other anti-diabetic agents and processes for preparation thereof. More particularly provides an effervescent composition comprising Metformin, an acid and a base such that the composition is free of affirmatively added binders and granulating solvents. The effervescent composition of the present invention has retained carbon dioxide content of at least 90% of the input blend.

Tenofovir granules of the present invention are prepared in twin-screw processor such that the content of total impurities in the prepared granules is less than 2.0%.
