Process for producing olefins from renewable naphtha

A small engine fuel composition suitable for use in a four-stroke engine, or capable of being blended with a lubricant for use in a two-stroke engine, includes 40% to 50% by volume isooctane, 15% to 25% alkylate feedstock by volume, 5% to 15% by volume of one or more aromatic compounds having from 7 to 8 carbon atoms, 10% to 20% by volume of a first refinery blendstock having a minimum of 98.0 volume percent aromatic compounds and having a flashpoint temperature of about 100 degrees Fahrenheit (known as 'Aromatic 100'), and 5% to 15% by volume of a second refinery blendstock having a minimum of 98.0 volume percent aromatic compounds and having a flashpoint temperature of about 150 degrees Fahrenheit (known as “Aromatic 150').

Aviation gasoline compositions

A rocket propellant includes a hydrocarbon blend having a total aromatic compounds content less than 0.5 mass percent, a specific energy of at least 18.4 KBtu/lb, and a mass density of at least 0.8150 grams per cubic centimeter. The propellant, which can be prepared by blending a refined kerosene with an isoparaffin and/or a cycloparaffin, exhibits a high volumetric heat of combustion and excellent thermal stability. This combination of properties is especially useful for fueling reusable launch vehicles employing regenerative cooling of engine components.

Process for preparing Tier 3 reference fuel

A process for isomerizing endo-hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene to form the corresponding exo-isomer using a stable, pumpable liquid aluminum halide catalyst which includes steps of providing a first solution containing a hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene compound that is dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent, adding a cosolvent to the first solution to form a second solution, adding an aluminum halide to the second solution, and isomerizing the hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene compound in the presence of dissolved aluminum halide which acts as a catalyst to produce the corresponding exo-isomer.

Process for producing exo-tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene

Disclosed is a process of fueling a rocket engine or air-breathing engine for a hypersonic vehicle with a high performance hydrocarbon fuel characterized by a hydrogen content greater than 14.3% by weight, a hydrogen to carbon atomic ratio greater than 2.0 and/or a heat of combustion greater than 18.7 KBtu/lb. The disclosed fuels generally have a paraffin content that is at least 90% by mass and a C-Cisoparaffin content of at least 40% by mass.

High performance liquid rocket propellant

A composition useful as a Reference Standard for measurement of Cetane Number or for use as a standard for determining a Derived Cetane Number consists essentially of a blend of n-hexadecane and 2,2,4,6,6-pentamethylheptane. The disclosed Reference Standards can be used directly as substitutes for blends of n-hexadecane and 2,2,4,4,6,8,8-heptamethylnonane in ASTM D613-10a for determining Cetane Number, or in ASTM D6890, ASTM D7170 or ASTM D7668 to determine a Derived Cetane Number.

Pentamethylheptane as a primary reference standard for cetane number

Disclosed is a high performance hydrocarbon fuel characterized by a hydrogen content greater than 14.3% by weight, a hydrogen to carbon atomic ratio greater than 2.0 and/or a heat of combustion greater than 18.7 KBtu/lb. The disclosed fuels generally have a paraffin content that is at least 90% by mass and a C-Cisoparaffin content of at least 40% by mass.

A high octane non-leaded gasoline meeting ASTM D910 LL standard is provided that includes a base gasoline fuel having a minimum MON of 96.5 and meeting the ASTM D910 standard. An octane-boosting component is mixed with the base gasoline fuel that raises the MON above 99.6 and the blended fuel complies with ASTM D910. The octane-boosting component is selected from a group including an additive, TEL only and a TEL containing gasoline.

Aviation gasoline

The present invention provides an improved hydrogenation processes wherein heat is efficiently managed so that catalyst productivity is optimized. More particularly, in the processes of the present invention, a nonaqueous solvent is added to a reactant to provide a nonaqueous solvent/reactant mixture that can act as a heat sink and absorb at least a portion of the heat generated within the reactor. Desirably, a reaction product, or a solvent with a minimal number of hydroxyl groups, is utilized so that the formation of unwanted byproducts can be minimized.

Hydrogenation process

Methods for purifying glycerin contaminated with one or more lower boiling alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, straight, branched or cyclic C3-C6 alcohols, and the like. The methods are particularly useful for purifying crude glycerin phases recovered from the synthesis of biofuels. The present invention uses distillation techniques to strip alcohol contaminants from glycerin. In contrast to conventional methods that carry out distillation either under substantially anhydrous or very wet conditions, the present invention carries out distillation in the presence of a limited amount of water, e.g., from about 0.8 to about 5 parts by weight of water per 100 parts by weight of contaminated glycerin to be purified.
