A liner for a shaped charge having integrated tracers. The liner, when the associated shaped charge is detonated, does not create a plug, carrot, or residue in the created perforation tunnel. The liner includes integrated tracers that, after detonation, are scattered into the perforation tunnel and then begin to flow back in formation fluid flow and are identifiable in the flow.

A method can include processing material via at least one severe plastic deformation process to form a degradable component where the material includes aluminum and one or more metals selected from a group of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, group 12 transition metals, and basic metals having an atomic number equal to or greater than 31.

Severe plastic deformation of degradable material

A nozzle for use with a limited entry liner. A limited entry liner can house multiple nozzles and each nozzle can include a barrel and a central, dissolvable region. The dissolvable region is made of a material that has specific properties that allow the central region to withstand pressure and environment in a well up to a certain, known point at which time the central portion will dissolve and allow fluid to pass into the limited entry liner.

A method includes pressing a blend of materials; and forming a degradable grip from the pressed blend of materials. The blend of materials includes a non-degradable material that is not degradable in an aqueous environment and an aqueous degradable alloy material. The pressing step includes using a high pressure and high temperature press.

A method can include polymerizing a blend of materials where the materials include polymeric material and a degradable alloy material; and forming a degradable component from the polymerized blend of materials. Such a method can include exposing the degradable component to water where the degradable alloy material reacts with the water to at least in part degrade the component.

A method can include pressing material to form a billet where the material includes aluminum and one or more metals selected from a group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, group 12 transition metals, and basic metals having an atomic number equal to or greater than 31; extruding the billet to form extrudate; and forming a degradable component from the extrudate.

Shaping degradable material

An embodiment may take the form of a method usable with a well including communicating an untethered object downhole in the well to land the object in a restriction to form a fluid barrier, and using an agent carried by the untethered object to seal at least one gap in the fluid barrier. Another embodiment may take the form of an apparatus usable with a well having a solid component to be deployed and be communicated downhole as an untethered object to land in a restriction in the well to form a fluid barrier and an agent attached to the solid component to seal at least one gap in the fluid barrier.

Technique and apparatus for using an untethered object to form a seal in a well

A thermal mechanical treatment method includes consolidating a powder by a severe plastic deformation process and ageing the consolidated powder at low temperature. The method may include cryomilling the powder before consolidating the powder by a severe plastic deformation process; hot isostatic pressing the consolidated powder into a dense powder before aging the consolidated powder; hot extruding the dense powder into a stock shape before aging the consolidated powder; hot-working the stock shape on a gyrating forge at a predetermined temperature before aging the consolidated powder; or heating the consolidated powder to a predetermined temperature, and maintaining the consolidated powder at the predetermined temperature for a predetermined time.

Thermo-mechanical treatment of materials

A component can include a degradable polymeric material that includes a thermoplastic elastomeric matrix and alloy particles disposed at least in part within the matrix where the alloy particles include aluminum and one or more metals selected from a group of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, group 12 transition metals, and basic metals having an atomic number equal to or greater than 31.

Fracture-resistant and self-lubricating wear surfaces are provided. In an implementation, a machine surface that is subject to wear is coated with or is constructed of a metallic nanostructure to resist the wear and to provide fracture-resistant hardness, built-in lubrication, and thermal conductivity for heat-sinking friction. The metallic nanostructured surface may be used, for example, on a face seal, bushing, bearing, thrust member, or hydraulic flow passage of an electric submersible pump. In an implementation, the metallic nanostructured surface is a nanocrystalline alloy including nanograin twins of a body-centered cubic (BCC), face-centered cubic (FCC), or hexagonal closest packed (HCP) metal. The nanostructured alloy may include atoms of copper, silver, gold, iron, nickel, palladium, platinum, rhodium, beryllium, magnesium, titanium, zirconium, or cobalt, and may provide more hardness and lubricity than diamond-like carbon coatings or carbides.

Fracture-resistant self-lubricating wear surfaces

An embodiment may take the form of a method usable with a well including pumping an untethered object into the well to land on a restriction downhole in the well and using the restriction to trigger release of an agent carried by the object into the well. Another embodiment may take the form of an apparatus usable with a well having a solid object adapted to be pumped into the well and an agent to be adapted to be released from the solid object in response to the solid object landing on a restriction in the well.

Delivering an agent into a well using an untethered object

A method for characterizing one or more properties of a geological formation including brine, the method including inputting at least one first property of the geological formation into an equation of state (EOS) model, the EOS model accounting for a high temperature effect on the brine; solving the EOS model to determine at least one second property of the geological formation; and outputting the at least one second property to a display device.

Device and method to determine conductivity for high pressure-high temperature service

A method for characterizing one or more properties of a geological formation including brine and a dense vapor phase includes inputting at least one first property of the geological formation including resistivity of a vapor phase into a model including an equation of state (EOS) model, the model accounting for a high temperature effect on the dense vapor where that the dense vapor has a non-infinite resistivity. At least the EOS model is solves to provide data relating to at least one second property of the geological formation. The data relating to the at least one second property is output to a display device for visual inspection.

Method to predict dense hydrocarbon saturations for high pressure high temperature

Embodiments may take the form of a tool string sub. The tool string sub may include a longitudinally extending tubular housing having an outside surface and an inside surface. A stepped circumferential portion of the inside surface of the housing bisects the interior surface of the housing. A degradation part is connected adjacent to the stepped portion of the housing and is supported by the housing and at least one moveable support part protruding inward and beyond the inner surface of the housing. The support part has a first position where the degradation part is at first stress and a second position where the degradation part is at a second stress greater than the first stress. At least one end of the tool string sub is adapted to connect with a tool string.

Apparatus and method for monitoring corrosion and cracking of alloys during live well testing

A downhole device with compressive layer at the surface thereof. Such devices may be particularly well suited for survivability in the face of potentially long term exposure to a downhole environment. Techniques for forming protective compressive layers at the surfaces of such devices may include positioning devices within a chamber for bombardment by high frequency particles. As a manner of enhancing the compressive layer thickness and effectiveness, low temperature conditions may be applied to the device during the high frequency treatment.
