The present solution enables a packet switched connection to be temporarily released at the wireless terminal for supporting voice calls over a Circuit-Switched (CS) Fallback. The packet switched connection of the LTE core network retained for a pre-defined period of time during the CSFB session allowing the user to quickly switch back to the packet switched connection when the CSFB session is shorter than the predefined period or when the voice call CSFB attempt fails. This is accomplished by the introduction of a timed buffer to control the length of time the LTE core network connection and wireless context information will be retained.

A device for use in a communication network having an access channel is provided. The device includes a memory that stores access class ('AC') barring parameters. The AC barring parameters establish rules to determine whether to transmit an access message on the access channel. The device includes a processor that determines whether the access channel is in an overload condition and determines of overload levels in response to the access channel being in an overload condition. A value of at least one AC barring parameter is defined based on the determined one of the plurality of overload levels. The device includes a transmitter that transmits an update message. The update message includes the defined value of the AC barring parameter corresponding to the determined one of the plurality of overload levels.

Adaptive access channel overload control

The invention provides a method and apparatus for transmitting real-time data in a multi-access system which eliminates clipping of the data while reducing transmission delays. The invention can be incorporated in any multi-access system where transmission resources are allocated when there is information to transmit. In a preferred embodiment, the invention is incorporated in a multi-access wireless system for the upstream transmission of voice from a mobile station to a base station. Each speech segment received at the mobile is shortened by appropriate editing and buffered until transmission. By editing and buffering speech segments as they are received, clipping can be eliminated while reducing transmission delays.

Method and apparatus for transmitting real-time data in multi-access systems

An apparatus and method which improves data transfer between a plurality of MSs and a BS through an improved resource allocation scheme is disclosed. The resource allocation scheme disclosed, unlike previous schemes, takes into account the quality of the channel between each MS and the BS for both uplink (UI.) and the downlink (DL) temporary block flow (TBF). (The UL is the TBF wherein data is transferred from the MS to the BS and the DL is the reverse.) Using for example conventional linear programming methods, the traffic blocks (TB) in a timeslot (TS) available for allocation can be allocated to improve overall data throughput at the BS.

Resource allocation in wireless networks

A system and method for GPRS MAC procedures to support delay-sensitive, real-time traffic is presented. The system comprises a mobile station able to transmit packets to and receive packets from a base station, where the base station is coupled to a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network, and where the GPRS network is coupled to a data network. In an uplink dynamic scheme, the base station receives an empty packet from the mobile station. The base station releases a bandwidth allocated to the mobile station if an implementation dependent time expires and further allocates a reduced portion of the bandwidth to the mobile station if a number of the empty packets are received or if a control packet requesting additional bandwidth is received by the base station. In an uplink fixed scheme, the base station allocates a fixed number of radio resources to the mobile station. The base station releases the radio resources allocated to the mobile station, if the fixed number of radio resources are not utilized and further allocates a reduced bandwidth to the mobile station if a number of empty packets are received.
