According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide an electrical-converter system comprising a printed circuit board including at least a first layer and a second layer, a switching node disposed on the second layer, a first transistor, a second transistor, a third transistor, and a fourth transistor disposed on the first layer, a first conduction path from a source of the first transistor, through the switching node, to a drain of the fourth transistor, the first conduction path having a first length, and a second conduction path from the source of the first transistor, through the switching node, to a drain of the second transistor, the second conduction path having a second length, wherein the first length of the first conduction path is greater than the second length of the second conduction path.

According to one aspect, embodiments herein provide a UPS comprising a first input configured to receive input power, a second input configured to receive backup power, an output, a bypass line selectively coupled between the first input and the output via a bypass switch, wherein in a bypass mode of operation, the bypass switch is closed and the input power is provided directly to the output, an inverter comprising an input configured to receive at least one of the input power and the backup power and an output selectively coupled to the output of the UPS via an inverter switch, wherein in an online mode of operation, the inverter switch is closed and the inverter converts the input power into the output AC power, and means for operating the inverter to force commutate current in the bypass line after a transition from the bypass to the online mode of operation.

A power converter includes a power conversion circuit switchably coupled to a first power input and a second power input. The power conversion circuit is operable to generate positive and negative DC output voltages and is configured such that, in a backup mode of operation, the negative DC output voltage is generated using backup power through a first current path of the power conversion circuit that includes a first diode coupled between the second power input and a second DC bus, and, in a line mode of operation, the negative DC output voltage is generated using AC input power through a second current path of the power conversion circuit that bypasses the first diode and includes a second diode coupled between the first power input and the second DC bus.

An uninterruptible power supply includes a first input to receive input power from an input power source, an output to provide output power, a switch, a first logic power supply coupled to the switch, a back-up power source, a charger, a main logic power supply and power converter circuitry. The switch is configured to close when a characteristic of the input power is within a selected range. The first logic power supply is coupled to the switch and configured to receive input power from the input power source when the switch is closed. The first logic power supply has a first DC output. The back-up power source has a second DC output and is coupled to the first DC output at a common node. The charger has a third DC output and is coupled to the common node. The main logic power supply is coupled to the common node and is configured to receive at least one of the first DC output, the second DC output and the third DC output. The power converter circuitry is coupled to the backup power source and the first input and is configured to provides the output power derived from at least one of power at the first input and power from the backup power source.
