A curved secondary battery and a method of manufacturing the same, the curved secondary battery including an electrode assembly having a curved shape; and a pouch that accommodates the electrode assembly, wherein the pouch includes a first encapsulation sheet on a curved first surface of the electrode assembly, the first encapsulation sheet having a portion with a same curvature as the first surface; a second encapsulation sheet on a curved second surface of the electrode assembly, the second encapsulation sheet having a portion with a same curvature as the second surface; and an attaching portion that has a planar shape, the attaching portion being formed when a first boundary portion of the first encapsulation sheet and a second boundary portion of the second encapsulation sheet are attached to each other.

Curved secondary battery and method of manufacturing the same

A method of manufacturing a curved secondary battery, the method including preparing a flat secondary battery such that the flat secondary battery includes an electrode assembly and a pouch accommodating the electrode assembly; primary shaping the secondary battery such that the primary shaping includes disposing the flat secondary battery in a first jig, and pressing the flat secondary battery to form a primarily-shaped secondary battery such that the primarily-shaped secondary battery has a first curvature radius; secondary shaping the secondary battery such that the secondary shaping includes disposing the primarily-shaped secondary battery in a second jig, and pressing the primarily-shaped secondary battery to form a secondarily-shaped secondary battery having a second curvature radius; and maintaining the secondarily-shaped secondary battery after forming thereof in the second jig for a predetermined time period.

Method of manufacturing curved secondary battery

A secondary battery includes an electrode assembly; a first pouch including an internal space accommodating the electrode assembly; and a second pouch coupled to at least one part of the first pouch and thermally bonded to at least one part of the first pouch, the first pouch and the second pouch sealing the electrode assembly. The first pouch and the second pouch each includes a body portion contacting the electrode assembly, the body portion comprising a back side, a front side opposite the back side, and two side surfaces between the back side and the front side; and a pair of wing portions respectively protruding from the two side surfaces of the body portion. A width of each of the pair of wing portions varies along the longitudinal direction of the electrode assembly such that the width of a central part of each of the pair of wing portions is greater than the width of either end part of each of the pair of wing portions.

Secondary battery having curved pouch

A secondary battery and a manufacturing method thereof are disclosed. In one embodiment, the battery includes an electrode assembly and a case accommodating the electrode assembly. The electrode assembly may include i) a first electrode plate comprising a first collector and a first active material layer formed on at least one side of the first collector, ii) a second electrode plate comprising a second collector and a second active material layer formed on at least one side of the second collector and iii) a separator interposed between the first and second electrode plates. In one embodiment, a plurality of pores are formed only in part of the first and second collectors.
