A cathode ray tube assembly includes a funnel having a neck, an electron gun having an electron emitter within the neck and having at least two focus electrodes for forming an electron lens for focusing and accelerating electron beams emitted from the electron emitter, lead pins extending through the neck and connected to the first and second focus electrodes, and a socket with pin connection terminals connectable to the lead pins; a voltage applying unit for applying an AC voltage to at least one of the focus electrodes through a lead pin connected to the focus electrode; and a voltage drop unit for reducing the AC voltage applied by the voltage applying unit to a second of the focus electrodes so that a reduced voltage is applied to a lead pin connected to the second focus electrode, the voltage drop unit being connected to the lead pins through pin connection terminals of the socket.

An electron gun for a cathode ray tube includes a triode portion composed of a cathode, a first grid electrode and a second grid electrode. Each of the first and second grid electrodes has beam-guide holes. The beam-guide hole of the first grid electrode is larger than the beam-guide hole of the second grid electrode. The hole portion of the first grid electrode is thinner than the hole portion of the second grid electrode. The distance between the first grid electrode and the second grid electrode is two or three times greater than as the distance between the cathode and the first grid electrode.

A method of manufacturing a cathode ray tube includes the steps of providing a stem with a flange having an outer diameter smaller than an inner diameter of a bottom end of the neck, performing a sealing operation between the stem and the neck in such a state that a bottom side of the flange is in a position, externally distant from the bottom end of the neck less than a thickness (mm) of the flange while internally distant from it less than twice the thickness of the flange, and moving the stem downward during the sealing operation so as to elongate the sealed portion of the neck, thereby preventing it from being deflated.

A color picture tube having an in-line electron gun includes a front panel, a funnel sealed to the rear of the panel, a neck connected to the rear of the funnel and provided with an internal in line electron gun and a plurality of electrodes for focusing and accelerating electron beams emitted from the electron gun, and a deflection yoke mounted around the funnel to scan the electron beams across the screen of the panel. An outer diameter NO of the neck is defined by 22.5 mm&lt;NO.ltoreq.24.0 mm and the relationship between the distance P between centers of neighboring beam-guide holes of the electrodes and the outer diameter NO of the neck is defined by 4.1&lt;NO/P&lt;5.4.

An electron gun for a color cathode ray tube is formed with a control electrode, an accelerating electrode, an anode, and a focusing electrode divided into a first and a second focusing electrode. A static focusing voltage predetermined independently of a deflection period is applied to the first focusing electrode and a parabolic waveform dynamic focusing voltage varying according to the deflection period is applied to the second focusing electrode. The first focusing electrode has three electron beam apertures with vertical parallel plates mounted around each aperture in a direction opposite to the direction of the electron beams. The second focusing electrode has three electron beam apertures with horizontal parallel plates mounted around each aperture in a direction opposite to the direction of the electron beams. The centers of the left and right electron beam apertures are offset to the left and right sides of the central axis of the vertical and horizontal parallel plates. This configuration allows easy assembly and produces a vertical elongated electron beam even with low dynamic voltage V.sub.d and thereby improves the focus of the electron beam.
