A mixing device capable of mixing a variety of fluids and suitable for miniaturization and low cost operation. In one embodiment, a mixing device includes a housing having an inner space and at least one opening for allowing at least two kinds of fluids to flow into the inner space, at least one pair of nozzle holes passing through one side wall of the housing, and at least one pair of guide portions extending from an outer surface of the housing and protruding up to the respective nozzle holes so that mixed fluids respectively discharged through the at least one pair of nozzle holes collide with each other.

Mixing device

The fuel composition for a fuel cell for a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell includes a fuel, water, hydrogen peroxide (HO), and heteropoly acid. The fuel may be a hydrocarbon fuel. The hydrogen peroxide may be present in an amount of 10 wt % to 60 wt % based on the weight of the mixture of the fuel, water, and the hydrogen peroxide. The heteropoly acid may be present in an amount of 0.0001 parts to 5 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of a mixture of the fuel, water, and hydrogen peroxide. The fuel composition may reduce a reforming reaction temperature and also hydrogen generating efficiency and resultantly provides a high power cell.

Fuel composition for polymer electrolyte fuel cell and polymer electrolyte fuel cell system including same

The electrode for a fuel cell according to one embodiment of the present invention includes an electrode substrate and a catalyst layer disposed on the electrode substrate, the catalyst layer including metal nanoparticles, a binder and a catalyst. The metal nanoparticles in the catalyst layer improve electrical conductivity, and also have catalyst activity to implement a catalytic synergetic effect so as to provide a high power fuel cell.

Electrode for fuel cell, membrane-electrode assembly including same, and fuel cell system including same

A catalytic combustor and a fuel reformer having the same. The catalytic combustor includes a housing having a cylindrical reaction portion and a second reaction portion surrounding the first reaction portion in a double tube shape. The housing has a first opening for supplying a first fuel and an oxidant to the first reaction portion and a second opening through which an exhaust in the second reaction portion is discharged. The first and second openings are disposed at first sides of the first and second reaction portions, respectively. The first and second reaction portions are connected with each other so that the fluid is communicated with the first and second reaction portions at second sides of the first and second reaction portions. A catalyst is disposed in the first reaction portion, and a mesh layer is inserted into the second reaction portion.

Catalytic combustor and fuel reformer having the same

A reformer having high durability and including a heating unit and a reforming unit. The heating unit has a hollow cylindrical shape or polygonal shape and a first combustor and a second combustor that receives and oxidizes heating unit fuel and anode off gas (AOG) at both ends thereof. The reforming unit includes a first reforming portion formed to surround the exterior of the heating unit, a second reforming portion formed to surround the exterior of the first reforming portion and a flow path portion connecting the first reforming portion and the second reforming portion to provide fluid communication therebetween. The flow path portion includes a pre-deformed portion extending along a direction substantially perpendicular to the central axis of the heating unit.

Reformer with high durability

A reformer including a heating unit, a first combustor for receiving and oxidizing a heating unit fuel at a first end of the heating unit, and a second combustor for receiving and oxidizing an anode off gas at a second end of the heating unit, a reforming unit having a first reforming portion surrounding the heating unit, a second reforming portion surrounding the first reforming portion, and a flow path portion connecting the first reforming portion and the second reforming portion to provide fluid communication therebetween, and a heat resistant shield between the flow path portion and the second combustor. Here, the heat resistant shield protects the reforming unit from being distorted by thermal expansion caused by the heating unit. In addition, the flow path portion may be formed with a blade configured to further protect the connector from being distorted by thermal expansion.

The electrode for a fuel cell includes an electrode substrate and a catalyst layer disposed on the electrode substrate. The catalyst layer includes a first catalyst including a tungsten-containing compound and a second catalyst including a noble metal.

Fuel cell electrode, membrane-electrode assembly and fuel cell system including membrane-electrode assembly

The provided is a mixed reactant fuel cell system that includes a fuel cell body including a membrane-electrode assembly, a fuel tank, and a fuel pump. The fuel tank stores a mixed fuel including a hydrocarbon-based fuel and hydrogen peroxide (HO). The hydrogen peroxide (HO) acts as an oxidant. The fuel pump supplies the mixed fuel into the fuel cell body to generate electricity. An anode included in the membrane-electrode assembly includes a catalyst that selectively activates the oxidation reaction of the hydrocarbon-based fuel. A cathode included in the membrane-electrode assembly includes a catalyst that selectively activates the reduction reaction of the oxidant in the cathode. Therefore, when the mixed fuel is injected into both of the anode and the cathode, only an oxidation reaction of the fuel is carried out in the anode, and only a reduction reaction of the oxidant is carried out in the cathode.

Mixed reactant fuel cell system

An evaporator (e.g., a small-sized high-efficiency evaporator) and a fuel reformer having the same. The evaporator has multi-stage structure (e.g., a four-stage disk structure), in which the respective disks are filled with fin structures. The first two disks through which exhaust gas passes and the second two disks through which water passes are stacked alternately with each other. Also, the first two disks are coupled with each other by a first pipe penetrating through one of the second two disks, and the second two disks are coupled with each other by a second pipe penetrating through one of the first two disks.

Evaporator and fuel reformer having the same

A fuel cell system having a water recovering and circulating structure, includes an electric generator provided with a membrane electrode assembly including an anode electrode into which a hydrogen containing fuel is introduced, a cathode electrode into which an oxidant is introduced, and an electrolyte polymer membrane interposed between the anode and cathode electrodes. The cathode electrode includes: a first catalyst layer which is in contact with the electrolyte polymer membrane and in which a reduction reaction for the oxidant occurs; and a first gas diffusion layer to diffuse the oxidant on the first catalyst layer. At least a part of the first gas diffusion layer directly contacts the electrolyte polymer membrane. Thus, water produced by the chemical reaction in the cathode electrode is introduced into the anode electrode through the electrolyte polymer membrane, and water is effectively prevented from evaporating, thereby enhancing the water recovering efficiency and thus enhancing the power generation efficiency of the fuel cell system.

Fuel cell system having water recovering and circulating structure

An evaporator and a fuel reformer having the same. The evaporator includes a wall arrangement having a circumferential wall and a bottom wall, the circumferential wall and the bottom wall defining (or surrounding) an evaporation chamber; an inlet provided at one side of the evaporation chamber; an outlet formed in the bottom wall; and a barrier at (or surrounding) the outlet and projected from the bottom wall to the inside of the evaporation chamber.

An auto ignition type autothermal reformer (ATR) performs reproducible ignition using a catalyst that performs ignition without a separate ignition unit, such as an igniter or heating wire, and a fuel cell system having the ATR. The ATR includes a reaction container having a first opening through which a fuel is introduced into the reaction container and a second opening through which a reformate is discharged from the reaction container, the fuel having a mixture of an aqueous primary fuel solution and hydrogen peroxide; a first catalyst disposed adjacent to the first opening in the reaction container, the first catalyst being a granular catalyst; a second catalyst disposed at the rear portion of the first catalyst to promote an autothermal reforming reaction; and a third catalyst disposed at the rear portion of the second catalyst to promote an oxidation reaction.

Auto ignition type autothermal reformer and fuel cell system having the same

A fuel reformer including a reaction container including a first chamber, a first reactor in the first chamber, the first reactor, including a first catalyst, being configured to produce a first reformate by performing a steam reforming reaction on a first fuel, and having a first gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) at a set flow rate, a first heat source thermally connected to the first reactor, and a second reactor connected to the first reactor, the second reactor including a second catalyst, being configured to produce a second reformate having a lower carbon monoxide content than the first reformate, and having a second GHSV greater than the first GHSV at the set flow rate.

Fuel reformer

A membrane-electrode assembly for a fuel cell includes an anode and a cathode facing each other and a polymer electrolyte membrane interposed therebetween. At least one of the anode and the cathode includes a conductive electrode substrate and a catalyst layer formed thereon, and the catalyst layer includes a first catalyst layer including a first metal catalyst that grows from the polymer electrolyte membrane toward the electrode substrate and a second catalyst layer including a second metal catalyst covering the first catalyst layer.
