Disclosed is a reflective liquid crystal display. The present invention provides a reflective liquid crystal display comprising: a lower substrate and an upper substrate opposed with a selected distance; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the lower and upper substrates and comprising a plurality of liquid crystal molecules; a gate bus line and a data bus line formed on the lower substrate to define a pixel; a counter electrode and a pixel electrode formed at an inner surface of the lower substrate, wherein both electrodes are formed with a selected distance and width so that most of the liquid crystal molecules in upper portions of those electrodes are sufficiently driven by forming a fringe field between said counter and pixel electrodes; a thin film transistor provided adjacent to an intersection of the gate bus line and the data bus line and transmitting a signal of the data bus line into the pixel electrode when the gate bus line is selected; a polarizing plate disposed at an outer surface of the upper substrate; a reflecting plate disposed at an outer surface of the lower substrate; and a quarter wave plate sandwiched between the quarter wave plate and the lower substrate, or between the polarizing plate an the upper substrate, wherein both counter and pixel electrodes are made of a transparent conductor, wherein a distance between the upper and lower substrates is greater in length than a distance between the counter and pixel electrodes.

Accordingly, a color shift of the LCD is prevented.

A liquid crystal display device, and a manufacturing method thereof, having an existing box-like counter electrode connected to the source/drain electrode through a first contact hole in the gate insulating film and so is used as the pixel electrode, and the existing slit-shaped counter electrode is connected to the non-transparent metallic common bus line through a second contact hole in the gate insulating film and so becomes the counter electrode while maintaining the existing process layer structure as it is, so that even if a short circuit occurs between the gate bus line and the pixel electrode in the same layer due to the particle, degradation is limited to only one pixel, which results in enhancing of the process yield.

Electrode contact structure for a liquid crystal display device and manufacturing method thereof

Disclosed is a reflective liquid crystal display having high transmittance and a method for manufacturing the same. The method comprises the steps of: forming a gate bus line and a common signal line by depositing a metal layer on a lower substrate and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming a gate insulating layer on the lower substrate in which the gate bus line is formed; forming a channel layer on a selected portion of the gate insulating layer having the gate bus line; forming a source electrode overlapped with one side of the channel layer, a drain electrode overlapped with the other side of the channel layer, and a data bus line being contacted to the source electrode and crossed with the gate bus line, by depositing a metal layer on the gate insulating layer in which the channel layer is formed, and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming an intermetal insulating layer having a uniform topology on a surface of the gate insulating layer; etching selected portions of the intermetal insulating layer and the gate insulating layer so as to expose selected portions of the common signal line and the drain electrode; and forming a counter electrode contacted with the common signal line and a pixel electrode contacted with the drain electrode by depositing a transparent metal layer on the intermetal insulating layer and by patterning a selected portion of the transparent metal layer. Reflective LCD having high transmittance and method for manufacturing the same

Disclosed is a fringe field switching liquid crystal display (FFS-LCD) and a method for manufacturing the same. The FFS-LCD comprises: a lower substrate; a plurality of gate bus lines extending along a selected direction on the lower substrate; a plurality of data bus lines disposed on the lower substrate in a manner such that they are crossed with the plurality of gate bus lines, for defining a unit pixel; a gate insulating film for insulating the gate bus lines and the data bus lines from each other; a thin film transistor located at a place where the gate bus lines and the data bus lines are crossed with each other; a pixel electrode formed on the gate insulating film, brought into contact with the thin film transistor and disposed in a space of the unit pixel; a counter electrode overlapped on the pixel electrode, the counter electrode cooperating with the pixel electrode for forming a fringe field which actuates all liquid crystal molecules existing on the pixel electrode and the counter electrode; and a passivation layer intervened between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode, wherein the pixel electrode and the counter electrode are made from a transparent conductive material and the plurality of gate bus lines are made as a metal film including aluminum.

Fringe field switching liquid crystal display and method for manufacturing the same

Disclosed is a reflective liquid crystal display having high transmittance and a method for manufacturing the same. The method comprises the steps of: forming a gate bus line and a common signal line by depositing a metal layer on a lower substrate and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming a gate insulating layer on the lower substrate in which the gate bus line is formed; forming a channel layer on a selected portion of the gate insulating layer having the gate bus line; forming a source electrode overlapped with one side of the channel layer, a drain electrode overlapped with the other side of the channel layer, and a data bus line being contacted to the source electrode and crossed with the gate bus line, by depositing a metal layer on the gate insulating layer in which the channel layer is formed, and by patterning a selected portion of the metal layer; forming an intermetal insulating layer having a uniform topology on a surface of the gate insulating layer; etching selected portions of the intermetal insulating layer and the gate insulating layer so as to expose selected portions of the common signal line and the drain electrode; and forming a counter electrode contacted with the common signal line and a pixel electrode contacted with the drain electrode by depositing a transparent metal layer on the intermetal insulating layer and by patterning a selected portion of the transparent metal layer.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display having high aperture ratio and high transmittance, which prevents signal delay in the gate bus line and also improves the intensity of fringe field, and the method of manufacturing the same. The liquid crystal display is manufactured according to the steps of: forming a gate bus line and a common signal line on a lower substrate; forming a gate insulating layer on the lower substrate in which the gate bus line and the common signal line are formed; forming a channel layer on a selected portion of the gate insulating layer comprising the gate bus line; forming a source and a drain electrodes so as to overlap with both sides of the channel layer, and a data bus line being arranged perpendicular to the gate bus line; etching the gate insulating layer so as to expose a selected portion of the common signal line; forming a counter electrode by depositing an ITO layer on the gate insulating layer, and by patterning a selected portion thereof so as to contact with the exposed common signal line; depositing a passivation layer over the gate insulating layer in which the counter electrode is formed; etching the passivation layer so as to expose a selected portion of the drain electrode; and forming a pixel electrode, by depositing the ITO layer on the passivation layer so as to contact to the exposed drain electrode, and by patterning a selected portion of the ITO layer so that a fringe field is formed by being overlapped with the counter electrode.

A liquid crystal display(LCD) comprise a first substrate, a first electrode formed on a front surface of the first substrate, a second electrode spaced from the first electrode on the front surface of the first substrate, a first vertical alignment film formed on a surface of a resultant in which the first electrode and the second electrode are formed and rubbed in a length direction of the second electrode, a first polarization film disposed on a back surface of the first substrate opposite to the front surface of the first substrate, a second substrate having a surface opposite to the first substrate, a second vertical alignment film formed on the opposite surface of the second substrate and rubbed in a length direction of the second electrode, a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first vertical alignment film and the second vertical alignment film so that all the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer have a single uniform tilt angle with respect to the first substrate when no voltage is applied, and a second polarization film formed on a back surface of the second substrate opposite to the opposite surface of the second substrate.

A liquid crystal display preventing color shift is provided. The liquid crystal display comprises: a liquid crystal layer having a plurality of liquid crystal molecules; a lower substrate disposed at one side of the liquid crystal layer and having a sub pixel defined by crossing a gate bus line and a data bus line at an interface with said liquid crystal layer and further having a counter electrode and a pixel electrode for driving the liquid crystal molecules within each sub pixel; and an upper substrate disposed at the other side of the liquid crystal layer and having a color filter, wherein an electric field parallel to the surface of the substrate and the gate bus line and an electric field parallel to the data bus line are simultaneously formed when a voltage is applied to the counter electrode and the pixel electrode.

Liquid crystal display device

A polymer dispersed liquid crystal display device is disclosed. A polymer dispersed liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes a pair of substrates inside which electrodes are formed, respectively. The substrates are disposed to be opposite to each other and to be spaced to a cell gap. A liquid crystal polymer network and liquid crystal droplets which are phase separated from each other, are interposed between the substrates. The liquid crystal polymer network is perpendicularly arranged to the planes of the substrates regardless of presence or absence of electrical field. The liquid crystal droplets includes a plurality of liquid crystal molecules and are dispersed in the liquid crystal polymer network. The liquid crystal polymer network has a birefringe index which is similar to that of the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal polymer network is that a liquid crystal polymer having a higher glass transition temperature than an operation temperature of the liquid crystal is perpendicularly arranged to the planes of the substrate by a voltage of 1 to 100 V and hardened as it is. Preferably, the liquid crystal polymer network is that a liquid crystal monomer having UV hardening property is perpendicularly arranged to the planes of the substrates and harden as it is.
