A system for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection on a smart card includes a substrate having a biometric sensor mounted thereon, and a conductive element mounted to the substrate, wherein a current induced by an ESD strike is conducted to a ground through the conductive element and the substrate.

Biometric sensor and system level electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection

A passive-matrix controller provides a control signal to each column of multiple columns of components, a driver for each column wire, and a multiplexer. Each column of components is connected to a column wire. The driver provides a drive signal in response to the control signal and the multiplexer comprises an output connected to each column wire and an input connected to each driver and connects the inputs to the outputs in response to a multiplex signal from the passive-matrix controller. The components can be inorganic micro-light-emitting diodes.

Multiplexed column drivers for passive-matrix control

A system with dimming control includes a luminance signal, a variable-frequency-clock signal generator responsive to the luminance signal operable to generate a variable-frequency clock signal, a pixel-control signal generator responsive to the variable-frequency clock signal operable to generate a pixel-control signal, and a pixel including a light emitter responsive to the pixel-control signal. The pixel-control signal can be a temporally modulated signal such as a pulse-width modulation signal or a pulse-density modulation signal. A display can comprise an array of pixels and a display controller. The pixel or the display controller can include the variable-frequency clock signal or the pixel-control signal generator, or both.

Display dimming for pulse-width-modulation pixel control

A hybrid pulse-width-modulation pixel includes a light controller responsive to a variable power signal specifying different powers and a pixel controller. The pixel controller is operable receive a pixel luminance signal comprising multiple bits specifying a desired light-controller luminance, generate the variable power signal in response to the pixel luminance signal, and drive the light controller to emit light at different luminances in response to the variable power signal for different time periods. The pixel controller is operable to provide the variable power signal at a constant first power for a first time period and provide the variable power signal at a constant second power different from the constant first power for a second time period.

Hybrid pulse-width-modulation pixels

A display includes pixels distributed in a pixel array of rows and columns that are grouped in mutually exclusive pixel clusters on a display substrate in a display area. Cluster controllers are disposed on the display substrate and are each connected to the pixels in a pixel cluster to control the pixels to emit light. A display controller external to the display area is connected to each row of pixels in each pixel cluster with a row wire. Each row of pixels in each pixel cluster can be connected with a cluster row wire and the corresponding cluster row wires of each pixel cluster can be connected together. The cluster controllers can be disposed between pixels in the pixel cluster or between adjacent pixel clusters on the display substrate.

Displays with hybrid-control pixel clusters

A smart card inlay comprising an inductive antenna and a DC-DC converter. The inductive antenna is configured to (i) communicate wirelessly with a card terminal, and (ii) power card circuitry via inductive coupling to the card terminal. The DC-DC converter has an input coupled to the inductive antenna and an output connectable to card circuitry. The DC-DC converter is configured to receive an input power signal from the inductive antenna and convert that input power signal to an output power signal to send to the card circuitry, the output power signal matching the operating current and/or operating voltage of the card circuitry.

System for display and presence detection are described. In some embodiments, a system may include a display and a sensor. The sensor may include a display switch, first and second display electrodes, and a light emission layer. The sensor may include a sensor switch, a sensor electrode, and an analog front end. The system may further include an external surface configured to transmit light emitted by the light emission layer toward a user.

In some embodiments, a method for detecting a portion of a user's body may be provided. The method may be performed by a system comprising a plurality of cells, each cell of the plurality of cells comprising a transmit electrode and a receive electrode. The method may include, in a first timeslot, applying a first driving signal to the transmit electrode of a first cell, and receiving a first measurement signal using the receive electrode of the first cell. The method may further include, in a second timeslot, applying a second driving signal to the transmit electrode of the first cell, and receiving a second measurement signal using the receive electrode of the first cell. The second driving signal may be inverted relative to the first driving signal.

Touch sensors with multi-state electrodes

Systems and methods for reducing noise in sensors are described. In some embodiments, measurement values for selected pixels may be processed to remove signals that are common to groups of pixels. In some embodiments, offset values between pixel groups may be determined. In some embodiments, the determined offset values may be used to remove or suppress artificial discontinuities.

An LC display driver including a gamma reference circuit to generate N gamma-compensated reference voltages based on at least one pre-defined gamma curve divided into M regions defined by M+1 breakpoint voltages, each generated by a range-region DAC coupled to a subset of voltage taps of a range resistor string (some subsets overlapping). An output circuit generates the N gamma-compensated reference voltages, and includes a reference resistor string with N reference voltage taps, and M+1 breakpoint locations to receive respective breakpoint voltages, the N reference voltage taps divided into M subsets corresponding to the M regions of the gamma curve, each of the M subsets of reference voltage taps forming a voltage divider. N output selector circuits output a corresponding one of the N gamma-compensated reference voltages based on a respective reference voltage tap and the associated voltage divider.

A display device having an integrated capacitive proximity sensor comprises a plurality of sensor electrodes disposed as part of a display element of the display device. The plurality of sensor electrodes is configured for performing both sensor and display functions of the display device. The display device also comprises a sensor drive mechanism coupled with the plurality of sensor electrodes and configured for driving a first electrical signal on a first at least one sensor electrode of the plurality of sensor electrodes. The sensor drive mechanism comprises at least one memory element that is configured for selecting drive excitation information for the first at least one sensor electrode. The display device also comprises a display drive mechanism coupled with the plurality of sensor electrodes and configured for driving a second electrical signal on a second least one sensor electrode of the plurality of sensor electrodes.

Integrated capacitive sensing and displaying

An example processing system for a display device includes driver circuitry and a control circuit. The driver circuitry is coupled to a plurality of source line nodes in the display device, each source line node of the plurality of source line nodes coupled to a plurality of subpixel columns through a demultiplexer having a plurality of switches. The control circuit is coupled to each demultiplexer. The control circuit is configured to operate each demultiplexer in a first mode by successively activating the respective plurality of switches, and in a second mode by concurrently activating the respective plurality of switches.

A source driver including: a current source that provides an approximately constant current; a channel coupled to a source electrode and including a digital to analog converters (DAC), the DAC including: a voltage source that applies an output voltage to the source electrode based on the approximately constant current provided by the current source; and a control unit having circuitry that: inputs a digital value; and terminates, based on the digital value, charging of the voltage source by the approximately constant current; and a calibration unit having circuitry that: generates a comparison between a test voltage applied by the voltage source with a target voltage; and modifies the approximately constant current based on the comparison.

Embodiments described herein include a display device having a capacitive sensing device, a processing system and a method for providing an adaptive low-power mode. In one embodiment, the method includes generating a reference voltage with one or more reference voltage generators while a display device is in a grayscale mode. The method also includes driving subpixels in the grayscale mode with the reference voltage. The method further includes shutting down the one or more reference voltage generators and driving subpixels in a low power, binary mode with a VCOM voltage based on positive and negative supply rails.
